    West Virginia Planning

    Hey gang,

Just got back from riding TN/NC on Monday and am planning my next trip for this september. Was hoping to get some feedback from folks who have some experience riding West Virginia.

-Where are the best roads centrally located (if there is a place)?
-Is there a strong LE presence?
-Is there cheap places to stay?
-Anything I absolutely HAVE to see or ride?

Any info would be great as i'm going into this on a whim. Thanks!

p.s. had a fluckin' BLAST in TN/NC! Buddy wrecked on the skyway though. He's ok, bike is pretty banged up.

Here's the plan for the trip I did in May, the roads we hit in WV were pretty incredible. Definitely changed my perspective on that state. I don't remember any of the specific routes that we hit, but Mark planned a pretty good route for us.

226A was pretty sweet. I'm sure just about every road down there is amazing. If you do 226A, stay at the Switzerland Inn. We happened across it this summer and it was a great place.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and was in WV for many trips in a car.... any roads that connect 79 to 64 and 79 to 81. 79 to 81 is far going east but there is some crazy twisties down.

    lookin like 9/7-13 or 9/21-27

I was checking out the maps looking for the squiggles and they seem to be everywhere. I'm just hoping they all connect and it's not an hour ride to ride one really fun road or something like that. Also hoping the fun roads are lengthy!

    Re: West Virginia Planning

Just returned from 6 days of riding in WV. We stayed in White Sulpher Springs at the James Wylie House B&B. Not cheap but very nice and a great full breakfast was included. You are right about the roads. A past governor of WV had a vision that 'all roads in WV will be paved' and they mostly are. Well paved. Even little goat paths that wind around the hollers...

Pick a direction and ride. You can't go wrong.

I was heading to White Sulpher Springs from Pittsburgh and went out of the way on purpose. There are long twisties everywhere. Have fun!!! If you head over towards Morgantown in Western WV it gets spotty but stay in the middle of the state and your all set.

It was actually pretty impressive to see in person, though I had never heard of it before we stopped there. It's definitely worth a quick stop.

See the ride report here for the trip SV650N, SVenpointsixtwo, and I did in May:
    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=580821

    Some highlights.

    Approaching Seneca Rocks:

New River Gorge bridge, since it's posted above:

Rt 16 in southern WV or possibly over the border into VA:

Lots more pics in the ride report, although I didn't take very many in WV because I was busy enjoying the twisties.

Rt 16 is an awesome road -- just beware of coal dust, especially around Coalwood, WV. Don't ask me how I know...
