What's the Boston riding scene like?

What's the Boston riding scene like?

    Well, when weather permits.

    Choppers? Cruisers? Sportbikes? Posers? Stunters?

And is it ok to ride to a club, park on a side-street (wherever there's space) and not worry about it being damaged or stolen? I have a 1989 Ninja.

I wouldn't worry too much about damage to a 1989 ninja. But if it's your baby don't park it in boston at all. Don't ride it to the clubs especially if you're going to be drinking. All kinds ride around boston, it's a small town and takes all of 3 minutes to get from one side to the other. Storrow drive raceway is nice at teh right time of day.

But the best riding is to get out as far away from Boston as fast as you can anyway...

    Right on.

I have no idea why you would go out for the purposes of riding your motorcycle and decide to go to an urban area. Or why you would ride (or drive to) to a pub or club - unless of course you don't drink.

I suppose it depends on whether you are riding for sport or to be seen and socialize. Note that I am not knocking either, each to his own.

only reason why i'm bringing my bike into boston once it's outta storage is cuz riding to work is more fun than taking the T.

of course... this is only in theory... watch me end up taking the T after a couple weeks of pure city riding

Don't forget the jailbait 13 year old girls in skimpy clothes, the army of police officers, and the sketchy looking teenage guys who didn't ride in on a bike but are really really interested in your bike!

If you are living right in Boston be prepared for a shitty existance in the summer. It take 45 minutes to get to any road worth riding. And you'll sweat your balls off while doings so sitting in traffic.

You're best bet is to jet out rte 2, there are some nice roads out that way. Just dont try to leave between 4-6 or you'll just sit in traffic (although its reasonably safe to split around there).

After 4 years of riding out of there I am happy to be done with it.

...and one more thing to add to the list....many road surfaces in and around Boston have deteriorated so badly in the last few years due mainly to lack of any worthwhile resurfacing projects in favor of the Big-Dig, and the terrible winters we have had recently. The roads now are badly cracked, potholed, heaved, poorly patched, etc. to the point of being outright dangerous to negotiate. On some Boston streets, your forward motion navigation will be more akin to the moves of somone doing a run through a minefield than anything else!

I live right in the city (Central Sq). As such, I've seen it all. Unless you live in the city there really isn't any reason come here with a bike unless you wanna hang out and socialize with people (day hours people hang on upper Newbury St. Night hours its upper Newbury and Landsdown St). The roads are in terrible condtion and the traffic is horrid. I would only ride your bike to a club if you had no intention of actully going *in* to the club (i.e. just hanging outside with people).

Storrow Drive, as said before, is a fucking *great* road. It may be the only reason to ride into the city. However, it can also be a parking lot at different points during day. The best time to hit it is really early on Saturday / Sunday mornings. Lucky for me, I live about 1/4 mile from the Central Sq on-ramp...open the throttle and your right into the Harvard Statdium curves in like 30 seconds AH! i can't wait for winter to end!!!!

Yeah Storrow drive is a great ride. But comeon guys just going into boston for the scenery is a nice change from the whole western mass stuff. I love just cruising down newbury street and then hitting up 93 north for a lil high speed cruising! Boston aint bad, I've seen Sully from Godsmack riding one of his choppers there once, it was a great ride.

What's the Boston riding scene like?

I just ask because I see bikes there very frequently, and I'm there pretty much everyday (without my bike).

The couple times I came (at night) all saddled up, it seemed like there were posers parked on Newbury St., stunters downtown, and none of them wanted any extra company.

It ocurred to me that maybe Boston isn't such a rider-friendly area, and that I should stick to Westborough, MA even though there aren't many other riders over here.

Do you guys ride with other riders in town?

people often don't want random people tagging on to their group...becuase you have no idea how drunk, stupid, fast, slow, insane, dangerous, etc they may be...

    ...at least i dont...

I ride with other friends I have who are *from* boston, but we almost never ride *in* boston. it's a waste ot time and gas. you'll see tons of bike in town however, becuase people wanna "show off" or something.

Get out of Boston and get out of Westborough for Christ's sakes, and get out to Vermont, the Berkshires, and places sport riders belong.

Sedition, you should try heading to Storrow via fresh pond and do a little out of the way back tracking. I'll have to show you my version of the race track and you can show me yours when the warm comes out. I think my house is no more than a few miles from you.

    oh dude...it's so much fun...

    -Storrow

-left onto Soilders Feild Road (once past Harvard)

-hook that left hairpin U-turn down by IHOP

-back to Soilders Feild (watch the state police barracks on right though!) or come back to Storrow via Fresh Pond

    - hit that big sweeper by harvard footbal (practice) feild back onto Storrow

-hit the U-turn at end of Storrow and do it all over again

or hit the on-ramp to 93 south, get off first exit, turn around and get on 93 north, and take Storrow exit off 93 north (has a great left hand turn)

Hmm..it sounds like something I'll try out sometime. Otherwise, I'm stuck in Westborough/Boston for now. I'm in school for a few more years.

But just out of wonder, where in New England are good places to own and ride a motorcycle?

I see VT and the Berkshires. Is there anywhere else, namely in MA?

And people in Boston: do you park your bikes outside?

You don't have to move there mate, most of New England is accessible on a day or overnighter ride. In Westborough you are only two hours slab from some proper roads (ie, not Route 9).

Besides, if you routinely sport ride with any degree of enthusiasm in Eastern Massachusetts you're going to make friends with the local coppers in short order. Think outside 495 rather than inside 128.
