John Britten was a revolutionary motorcycle designer whose home-brewed machine won international plaudits with its stunning design and performance. The 300+ km/h blur of speed, the smell of burning rubber and the distinctive roar of the Britten V1000 motorcycle linger over the tarmac of kiwi myth and the world of motorcycle design. From his backyard in Christchurch John Britten melded the edges of design and engineering, the acclamation testifying to a visionary talent: "man against the manufacturers", design genius, engineer, artist, thinker, entrepreneur, "the last of the great privateers", inventor, "Renaissance man" - as well as architect, builder, glider pilot and glass sculptor.

i think that I was the only one who made it. I am sorry for the lastness of my post for the event. I had only seen the email that day. There were maybe 15 people there. Mostly the suit type. Most of them I spoke with had collectors bikes from the 60's and 70's. The event consisted of a documentary style TV show which ran over two hours. The show covered the entire process of Britten's process of building his second model which ran at Daytona in 1992(?). It showed him casting everything from the cyclinder blocks for the engine to welding the exhaust pipes to forming and shaping the carbon fiber body panels and front forks. Everyone in the room was jaw dropping impressed how this one man and a hand full of friends worked over the course of a single year to build a one off motorcycle which was capable of running neck and neck with a Ducati. Britten could of and should have won Daytona that year if it had not been for a fault in the electrical system which he bought from someone else. This was the only part other than a battery which he did not fabricate on his own. The show went to follow his success in the following years and the places where he raced.

If it is possible to get a copy of the film, how would we set up another showing? Should we set up a poll to find interest?
