Is anybody going to sturgis?

Heading out this Tuesday to get there for Thursday or Friday, is anyone else here going to south dakota? We have a bunch of rides planned, never been out there myself.

Never been, but I avoid Laconia during bike week too…just for consistency.

I grew up about 30 mins from Sturgis. My wife's family still lives there, and hits up the rally every year. I know exactly what I'm not missing out on.

Umm yea, been and don't care. Just because we don't go to bike rallies doesn't mean we don't leave New England. For me it means I dislike attending events that promote everything I dislike about motorcycles.

ok well I went to the rally headquarters 1 day, it was good just to check it out. 300000 people was a lot. but then I went to some other surrounding towns/cities/state parks which were hosting a small similar rally headquarters, not as populated but with vendors. that was all the 40 y.o. man stuff, I'm 22 so we hit some unbelievable roads and bars (separately) and I put about 1400 miles on my bike. never once did someone else entertain me on the road, I felt threatened due to the conditions of most of the riders out there, but never once was I left driving behind a sloww ass rider because everywhere was a passing zone. you can't even agree that the roads were better than anything around here? and notice I never mentioned the rally just the area?

Are you inferring that west river residents only rode their bikes during that one week in August? You are sadly mistaken. Believe it or not, those same roads everyone raves about are actually still there the other 51 weeks of the year. And they are SO much better to ride when you aren't stuck between several thousand chrome couches riding at 15 mph under the speed limit. The 'tourists' aren't there for the twisties, they're there for the scenery (Spearfish Canyon is the best example of this). Most Rapid City residents know to keep your bike tucked away until the rally gets the hell out of town. I can promise you that the day after the rally is the happiest day of the year for about 90% of Black Hills residents.
