So those of you who were at Donny's last night saw my new bike; I figured I'd go ahead and post about it, even though I had been hoping to get some better pics before I did. As it happens, I've been too busy riding to bother taking photos.
The specifics:
2000 BMW R1150GS
Significantly modified by the previous owner; see the ADVrider build thread for details, but the short version would be
- removed the BMW telelever front end in favor of an aftermarket front frame w/50mm Marzocchi upside-down forks (fully adjustable—preload, compression, and dampening)
- Ohlins rear shock (also fully adjustable)
- 21" front wheel from a KTM w/Beringer 6-piston caliper and 310mm disc (single disc instead of dual)
- 1:3.2 final drive out of an R850 in place of the stock 1:2.82
- Happy Trails aluminum panniers & custom top box sized to fit Delorme Atlas books
And Mark, yes, you were right—the rear rim is a 17x3.5 Sun in place of the OEM BMW 17x4.0 rim. Apparently that was worth a few pounds of weight reduction.
