    Anyone interested in drag racing?

Just curious if anyone here is interested in drag racing their bikes (or anything else).

There's a group of us that often go to Napierville. I took my bike for the first time last week and had a blast. Hoping to go again this Saturday. Weather is looking promising..

I need to improve my launch. I ran a bunch of high 11's at about 124MPH with wussy 2.3 60 foots. Best was 11.78@124.9

Anywho, just throwing it out there since Doc seemed to think there may be some interest.

I would LOVE to go up. Even if it is just to watch the first time... I don't know if my passport is current though.

Did I miss something? Why would you need a passport?

Re: Anyone interested in drag racing?

You don't need a passport. I've been traveling to canada and back very regularly for a few years.

They're trying to make a passport/enhanced license a requirement, but it is not required as of yet. If you just show them your driver's license, they'll give you crap and tell you to get better paperwork next time, but they'll let you in. The bottom line is they cannot deny a US citizen entry into the country. Worst case, they'd bring you inside and verify your identity. But they don't want to do that since it's more work for them also.
A friend of mine goes through with driver's license and birth cert very regularly. He's always told to get an enhanced license, and he never does..

Edit: And it's super easy to get into Canada. They don't care. It's just getting back into the US where they'll tell you to get an EDL.

You and your friend have been getting lucky. The border patrol is under no obligation to let you into the country if you don't have proof of citizenship/residency. The officers have been bending the rules for you; if you get a hardass next time, you could find yourself stranded in Canada (and just going to another border crossing won't necessarily work either, because the officer can apparently put your failed attempt to cross into the computer system, which immediately flags you if you try to enter elsewhere).

    Official rules here:
    http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html

I imagine the border patrol has been giving people a certain grace period, but it's been over a year since these rules went into effect, so I would expect them to get much stricter about enforcement.

As for Canada, they will automatically deny you entry if you have certain crimes/infractions on your record, such as DUI. But generally speaking, they are more easygoing than their American counterparts.

Re: Anyone interested in drag racing?

I've actually called the boarder patrol several times about the topic and it's been on the news.

The passport requirements keep getting pushed back. It's not officially required yet. It was supposed to be required as of february 2009, but they keep pushing it back.

They cannot deny entry into the country just because you don't have a passport. Worst case, they take you into the office and make you do some paperwork.

It's not a big deal. I've crossed the border probably close to 100 times over the last few years.

And for what it's worth, I do have my EDL which isn't even mentioned at that link but is 100% acceptable. It's just my friend that continues to use his standard license.

I doubt I would have much of a problem with my military ID but I bring my passport to be safe.

Rules went into effect on June 1, 2009, according to the State Department. Military IDs are accepted in place of passports.

Maybe because that one is 2 to 3 times further away? Just a guess though.

I actually prefer Napierville anyway. Much more low key. Less busy, you can get in a lot more runs.

But yeah, NED is 3 hours from me.. Napierville is less than 1.

That's what I thought as well. According to the State Dept, that's when it took effect. Never had any issues entering Canada: it's the US border officials who are chronically

But they accept a Passport Card, which is much more convenient to carry in a wallet. We have relatives in Canada so my wife and I both have them. $30 if you have a passport already.

Didn't post my real card because I suspected you would use the information for nefarious purposes.

The Canadian border guards range from bored to almost catatonic. A few years ago they were in a labor dispute and had a slow down, so they'd take your info, sit in their booth for a minute, then hand it back, just to make the wait longer.

The US guards are much more intense. Sometimes have us open up the back of the van and ask our kids who we are, even after showing passports for all of them.

But the next time you cross back, crack some jokes about firearms, explosives, and Allah: they like that and will give you VIP treatment.

I know some people take it seriously but every time I hear "drag race" I think it's something put on by Jacques Cabaret.
