On a fairly unrelated side note, that's a badass trailer he just picked up. Pretty close to a perfect foundation for a sweet track trailer.
Thanks for stopping by and helping John! It made the work go by quicker. If it wasn't for you I think I would still be up on the roof!

I still think I could have lifted that garage right into a dumpster with the Trojan.

    Hey Doc,

I have nothing planned until 5pm today... I'll be at the shop cleaning up a bit, for a photoshoot with a friends' new bike tonight that we picked up in Brattleboro last night. Gimme a shout if you need a hand (since I have no idea where you live), but my shop is located about 1/4mi from burlington pd on north ave.

    Hey Doc!!

Sorry I missed you this weekend. i'd have loved to come get my hands dirty. Just rolled back into town from Albuquerque. But, hopefully I'll see you tuesday night to catch up after the month away. Hope everyone had some fun. Demolition is like a sandbox for grown-ups.

    cheers!

The garage is still standing. I guess the contractor gets all the fun of knocking it down.

    Re: Garage tear down party!!

I had a couple offers but couldn't coordinate it so that more than 2 people would be there at one time so I bagged it.

No worries. I am going to go play a bit today. I just need to move my Heavy tool box into the trailer, then I will cut out the windows and start taking the siding off.

Who was it you said might want to buy the wood?

    Re: Garage tear down party!!

The new one is going to be a little taller, have a 4 foot "basement" for storage, about 1 foot wider and 2 feet longer BUT going from 2x4 to 2x6 construction and from 24 on center to 16 on center.

Most importantly it will be SQUARE and LEVEL!!

I wish it could be bigger but with the zoning laws I am pushing it. (It is on the property line and is grandfather in or it would have to be 10 feet off the line which puts it in the middle of my back yard.)

Just a thought but if you are going to have a 4 foot basement already why not dig down an extra 2 feet and put it up 6 inches so you can have a nice 6.5 foot high basement under it. Could be a double stacked garage with very little extra work....

Why the 2x6? Isn't 2x4's more than good enough for a small simple garage?

Yeah umm... Burlington doesn't know about my lil "basement" and they wouldn't approve it if they did.

2x6 for more insulation. It gets COLD up here in the winter.

    Gotcha...

Yeah, DEF 2x6. I redid my whole garage to make it 2x6 and it made a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference. For real

It does also make it a hair stronger but nothing huge there.

Eeeoouucchhh. I'm not sure where you priced it but Brian Thomas (cell 989.1661 office 247.5050) or Kent Burgess (Environmental Foam of Vermont 899.9901) are two people that we typically use. I'm not saying it's going to be any cheaper but they are the sources I'm familiar with.
