Fatal motorcycle crash in St. Johnsbury

    St. Johnsbury, Vermont - May 27, 2010

A passenger on a motorcycle was killed in an accident early Thursday morning.

Vermont State Police say the bike went off Route 5 in St. Johnsbury and struck a guardrail. Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the bike. The driver, Nathaniel Elie, 22, of St. Johnsbury, was taken to the hospital with what police describe as non-life threatening injuries. The passenger died at the scene. That person's name is being withheld pending notification of family.

Police say their initial investigation indicates that both alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.

A sobering reminder to be careful out there.

EDIT: Looks like he was from Burlington. Wonder if we saw him at any of our Bike Nights

Sad but inevitable with boozing and riding.

Its one thing you drink and ride and risk your own life, but to do it with a PASSENGER? Jesus, fuck.

Hate to be the one that says it, but he should be executed.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the death penalty in Vermont was abolished in 1964. But I do hope this man receives the maximum punishment allowable by law.

not that i'm not sympathetic for the passenger and the family, but no one forced them onto the back of the bike with a drunk driver. make your own decisions pay your own consequences.

the passenger was someone my girlfreind grew up with...doesnt it suck when the drunk driver gets out unscathed and the others pay the price? makes me sick.

i also agree here, but man i still hold the driver ultimately responsible. the passenger might not have known his level of impairment anyway...you dont have to be drunk to make bad decisions on a motorcycle, just a couple can mean the difference between commiting to a corner or eating a guardrail.

Bikes are really meant to be ridden solo and never drunk. He should have taken her for a couch ride instead (kids with hormones)! Worst case would be have been another idiot in the world. To bad someone had to die.
