Boy thats sound pretty familiar and confusing.
I've been down that road a few times in my life in the manufacturing enviroment and am now doing Inventory in food.
Get the resume up to date and think about moving a bit south?
Hope it all works out for you

    Sorry I spoke up.

With the company dissolving, more than likely your debt to them is released along with any contractual obligations that they have to you. It's probably written into your employment contract. Worth a look.

    /contracted for a while

I'll head back to where I'm welcome, Doc. Didn't realize that this forum was a "No Trespassing" zone.

Just ignore Doc, he's old and cranky

The contract I have is only for the bonus that they owe me for my trip out to Idaho, and it does seem like this termination releases them from their obligation to pay me. However, there is a successor clause written into the contract that allows any of the other subsidiaries to assume liability for the contract (and to which I could be held liable if I were to quit). I'm just not sure which part is going to win (I assume the part that ends the contract will win, but I haven't heard what they plan to do about it), so I hope that they simply re-write the contract (assuming I get rehired) to make sure that I can still get my bonus.

At this point it's just a waiting game, but I've never had something so important happening while having no idea where I stand. Usually I can get a feel for how things will probably go, and right now I'm clueless.

Keith, it will work out bro. +1 on the resubmitting your resume being a technicality. As for the bonus, if they dissolve (just guessing, would have to see the contract) you shouldn't be under any obligation to repay the loan as you didn't quit, and as for the new people taking over the contract, that is an option but most likely only insofar as you and them can agree to let them pick that up. Keep us appraised.

    Re: Merry Christmas...

Well they started sending out offer letters. I'm not sure how staggered they intend the process to be, but I haven't received one yet. Good news is they don't appear to be cutting salaries.

Edit: Apparently they started sending out offers as early as last Tuesday, but I know at least one person that got one yesterday. I thought I was nervous before, but this takes the cake. I just want this stupid ordeal to be over with so I can get stupid on New Year's out of joy instead of drinking away my sorrows haha.

Easy big fella. Scott's a good guy, bought a bike awhile ago (last summer?). I didn't even know he had found this forum, though I think I recommended it to him.

    Re: Merry Christmas...

Well I'm officially unemployed, at least temporarily. To make the situation even more ridiculous, one of the two HR people that are handling this has been on vacation since yesterday, and apparently the Texas design center just finished getting their paperwork in recently (deadline was December 11th) so it seems that they are the priority now. At least 25% of the Burlington site hasn't received an offer (it's probably closer to 30% but some people are on vacation so I wasn't able to ask them) so I'm certainly not alone. My boss acted like it was just a matter of time, but of course couldn't say anything concrete in case something changes. I'm not worried about my job so much as I am super frustrated at the situation (especially the HR person taking vacation). It also seems like the earliest I would start would be January 11th, though it could be as early as the 5th or who knows, it might not be until February. My boss' departing words were "keep checking your e-mail" and mine were "can I use you as a reference when I start applying other places?".

    Re: Merry Christmas...

Don't know about Vermont, but in Massachusetts:

    - your vacation time can't be used to delay your unemployment claim.
    - Your severance can't be used to delay your unemployment claim if you had to sign an agreement in order to receive it. Typically that agreement relieves the company of all legal responsibilities to you and sometimes says that you are not eligible for recall in the event the layoffs are temporary

Double check your state requirements and confirm with your HR person to make sure you get your full benefit.

Good luck on the good news!

Woo!! I got my job back! I even have a higher title than I expected. An engineer II is supposed to have I think 4-5 years of experience and I only have 3.5, but they gave it to me anyway. I start on the 11th, so I better make good use of my week off Now I just hope the others that were waiting to hear find out soon

Awesome! That's GREAT news! I know how stressful your wait must have been. I've been temping for my former employer for 6 months. I keep getting extended. But every unexpected meeting gets the heart rate up. Congrats on the new title as well!
