A nice Sunday afternoon T Rd ride

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but my buddy Ben and I took a ride over to T Rd on Sunday and did a few passes. I had recently put on a new Pilot Road 2 on the rear and really wanted to see what it could do, since I was coming from a few consecutive ContiMotions and wanted to see what I was missing. Verdict: A lot. These tires stick like glue, with no unease at all, which is a lot considering I was flogging the 520 pound beast they call a Sprint. Ben was following me on his Daytona 675 with his GoPro and got some video of the last run. It's not great quality because his windshield is tinted and had something smeared on it, but it's good enough (setting the quality to HD helps a lot).

How good are the tires? I was able to get my knee down on the Sprint, with my top case and lowered foot pegs installed, without any complaint from the bike or the tires. I was pretty impressed, as I have never had the Sprint anywhere close to that far leaned over. Yes I know that I shouldn't have, and I don't usually ride at this pace, but everything was clicking and I decided to pick up the pace a little bit.

Oh yeah, and T Rd is in killer shape, there was maybe one tiny bit of gravel in one corner, and one new turtle popping up in the road, but it was in a very easy to manage spot. EP Rd is closed though.

I'm actually really looking forward to going back. I used to go all the time when Jon was here, but since he moved I've only gone a handful of times. Having a sticky tire on there and the confidence to trust the Sprint is a great feeling. Mark said that this video makes him want a Street Triple, and I absolutely agree (I would get the R, without hesitation). Makes me want to sell the Sprint and get an Street Triple R and a Tiger 800XC, but it's just not going to happen anytime soon.

I love the Road 2. I was looking for a durable tire with similar performance to the Pilot Power. I found it. It has remarkably great center wear with it's dual compound and great grip. It is also a confidence builder when leaned over in the rain. I've put about 3000 mi on (plenty to go!) with pretty even wear. I had some long, straight highway rides (2-3 hrs each) mixed in there, commuting miles, 4 T-road runs and a 7 hour trip to Bangor. So far I am truly impressed.

    Good choice.

    Good video.

I love the Pilot Road 2's. I just had them put on my FZ1 and they completely changed the bike.

i just got PR2's on my versys, i had been on the stock dunlop sportmax tires that were over 9000 miles on them, and the PR2s make it seem like a totally different bike!

I went over today... Started spitting rain on E Road and then consistent rain on T Road. Still, a great trip and I brought some noobs.

Anyone else think E Road is better than T? I do!!

Wait, are you guys talking about EP Rd or something else? Because I thought the bridge was closed on EP Rd?

I think there's a temporary bridge for local traffic, cannot confirm this though.

Ah, that could be. It did say "local traffic only" so I didn't bother checking it out. I don't like how some of the shady corners stay kinda slick all the time, and there always seems to be traffic when I'm on it. It is fun to do, but not as fun as T rd IMO

I found the "bridge out" sign to be a lie (to keep trucks off the bridge?).

Anyway, the bridge is only one lane but you can get through. It's epic. Agreed about the shade, I just like the curves better because there are some elevation changes.

We should do a group ride soon.

Loved the supremely epic video ! I should do the T Road again as well & shoot my own video...expect it would be about 45 minutes long...but it would have it own epic quality.

I'd be in on that ride so long as its planned a few weeks in advance (and on a weekend). I'd love to see what these Angel ST's can really do.
