one of ours hit and run - okay but hurting

This afternoon a close friend of mine Dan, dichotomous on this forum, was hit on his motorcycle by a driver that then sped off. He is okay. Dan was on williston road near the airport. The offending driver was driving a silver SUV and swerved into his lane hitting him. Dan managed to avoid a full on collision and got everything except his leg and foot out of the way so damage to the bike appears minimal.

He's all in one pice but his leg is a bit rough so he is at the hospital at the moment. If anyone sees a silver SUV in the area with a freshly busted drivers side headlight and impact damage along that side please take note of the license plate just in case.

So yeah, remember to ride safe guys and should u be in a group and someone gets hit and the driver runs remember... first few people stop to check and render aid when they can do so safely... the rest catch the driver that tried to run, drag him out of the vehicle and beat his or her sorry ***.

Damn, heal up quick Dan. I hate riding on Williston Rd, I've had to use my Stebel on that road more times than any other road combined, people just aren't paying attention and don't care. I will keep my eyes peeled for the SUV.

For those of you outside the area - it's Route 2, going from S Burlington E to the airport past a bunch of strip malls etc. Lots of traffic entering and turning.

Ugh. Sorry to hear it, but glad it sounds like he'll be ok. As for the driver,

Re: one of ours hit and run - okay but hurting

just bruised my foot a little. nothing broken. WEAR DEDICATED RIDING BOOTS. they are built for this, and work. if I was in sandles or dress shoes or sneakers, I would not have a foot right now. if I was in standard steel toe work boots, I would not have a foot right now. riding boots have armor in the right places, a stiff sole to help with collasp, and are sleeker so blows can glance off.

so I'm limping a bit cause my foot hurts, but nothing serious. the bike is likely totaled. jason rode it home for me last night, said it was handling a little funny on the interstate, then got home and told me the subframe was tweaked, everything on the left side was sheared off. I didnt know it was that bad, I mean I rode to BK for lunch after and back to work.... but I was a little shook up still.

I'm just glad I was lucky.

the cop who responded was a rider, and had some cars in the area searching around, but it had been 10min or more by that time, enough time to get pretty far away.

sadly enough, I dont think I will. 2 hits in 1 year, well... dont wanna be there for the "3rd times a charm".....
My kids are 5 and 9, and they need a daddy, once.... I could reasonably get back on the bike, twice in a year..... not so much. I'll be back, 15 years or so from now.
I'll persue "less" dangerous hobbies, you know, knife throwing, russian roulette, lion taming, fire walking, naked glass blowing..... or just mountian biking and snowboarding like back in the day, though honestly I have been hurt worse doing those than motorcycling, but there are less SUV's on the trails.

so I'll see you guys again when we have flying hoverbikes and what not in the future, hopefully they dont ban bikes during my sabatical.

I may part out the bike depending on how much they want for a buy back, or if they dont total it. wrenching was almost as much fun as riding.

What about getting a track only bike? Trackdays will let you get your fix and are safer.

I can understand shying away from riding again. Can't blame you in the least. A shame that someone else's carelessness leads to this sort of shit though. A real shame. Fuckers.

Don't blame you man. Your kids are awesome and they would miss you if (God forbid) anything serious were to happen to you.

Yeah ... at first glance the bike didn't look bad. Was all good on slow roads but at higher speeds it just felt off...not horrible but just like the right frequency might be less than ideal. Was amusing too on the interstate when I had my foot on what was left for peggage in the back and it decided to finish shearing off and suddenly the left side of me had no support and my leg goes flying down. Startled me for a moment... They shave cars to make them look cool, maybe you can pretend that's the case for the motorcycle and get more money for it

Glad your okay and that your wife didn't seem mad at you lol.

Re: one of ours hit and run - okay but hurting

    Shit, Dan, glad you're okay!

That's the second hit and run in a week I've heard of in that general area. My officemate Ed was rear-ended in his car by the I-89 interchange, shoving him into the back of the car in front of him, and the driver who rear-ended him sped off. And now of course the woman he shoved Ed into is filing an insurance claim for being rear-ended...

not shying away, delaying till more appropriate to my responsibilities considering recent statistics.

track days would be too expensive and what not, I would have to get a new bike, only ride it 4 or 5 times a year at best, trailer it there..... stay overnight at a hotel. meh. sounds wicked fun if there was a place here in town, but there is not.
there ARE however, some of the best mountain bike and snowboard trails on the planet earth, right (literally) in my backyard. I live at the base of mt mansfield, there are few better places to ride, hike, and bike. motorcycling was a hobby, a nice way to hit work and identify with a culture, all that can be had with these other hobbys, and I have more time in them than riding, I've ridden for 6 years, mtb for 20, and snowboarded for 17. I'm also much better on pedals and snow than twisting a throttle, you can go wide open, not hold back in those. the sportbikes can NOT be wide open, HAVE to hold back on streets, and trackdays are too few and far between.

Other option, of course, would be to start riding dirtbikes (or a dual-sport and stick primarily to dirt roads).

I used to live on that road as a kid, (right by the vet hospital) I went back there last yr. and was amazed at how built up it was. Glad you are mostly ok, if you have some time i would park there for a while and see if the offender goes by again. I wouldnt bother for a week or two as he/she wont venture there for a while ,but people are creatures of habit, i bet it can be found.
