Hey all,
I came home to a whirlwind of S#%T. Something in my computer/firewall/email/webpages has been hacked. After battling with an iTunes compromise this past June, i'm a bit tired of this. Facebook, Twitter, everything.
So, I'm leaving Facebook. I can't have that kind of stuff happen, especially with my upcoming residency applications. Perhaps someday I'll join in again, but I can't afford to potentially have this stuff wreck years of ridiculously hard work.
Y'all know how to get in touch with me...I'm not leaving the forum.

Buy a Mac.
No issues in 3 years.
Use a longer password. Fancy characters are no substitute for a long password. I tend to use full sentences, toss in a few numbers and special symbols here and there and presto. Always logoff AND clear the cache when in a public place. I could hack your account from cached information 60% of the time even after you log off if I cared to. (Which I don't)
If you use outlook, thunderbird or any other mail client make sure you have encryption turned on for the password/handshake section of things otherwise each time you get your mail your password is going cleartext across your network and subsequently the internet. Any brat with a sniffer can see it.
I know you probably know all of that, but just in case![]()
Thanks guys.
It wasn't an issue of passwords being broken, it's more an issue of privacy. iTunes in June was a 9-character password that WAS broken. I've up-ed the ante there.

I had a recent encounter with Credit Card fraud and have done what I can in my limited abilities to scrub my comp.
Facebook may be the issue but I bet all those porn sites you visit don't help.
Or maybe that is just me.![]()

+1 on the Mac. Much, much less likely for one to get infected with trojans or keystroke loggers or what have you.

Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton Please send it to everybody you know who has Access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled Here you have it or Just For You If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful....'
Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who originated it will gain access to your Name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.
AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus softwares are not capable of destroying it.
The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.
PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!
THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES.

Did you actually read the Snopes article?
They also mention that most of the text of the email is a repeat of the old "Life is beautiful" virus hoax.Originally Posted by Snopes

lol, okay, so some of the comments here and questions I get asked daily at work prompted a stupid write up. Way long, way boring but may be useful.
