Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
My stomach dropped when I clicked this thread.
Poor guy, this is really going to put a kibosh on his house hunting as well.
Lets put out a donation jar for the next few Tuesday nights to help with expenses, or if he has good health insurance already... to get him something shiny.
Keith, can you find out the status of the bike? If it's easily salvageable, I will offer up my garage to use as a place for us to put it back together again.

Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
Adam, Keith, David and i had a long night trying to figure out if it was Mark and then once we confirmed it was him, what kind of shape he was in. It was so relieved when we heard back from Mark this morning. Mark, if there is anything that you need, just let us know.

I believe his health insurance is fairly "average", and unless the other driver was at fault he will be incurring some expenses. A donation jar is a good idea.
I'm hoping Jason (jcbell) can shed some light on the final destination of the bike, as I have no idea where it ended up. It didn't look terrible, but since he was in the process of selling it, I'm assuming he would rather just take the check and not have to ever see that bike ever again. If he wants to fix it, though, then we will definitely make it happen.

I think that's a good sign that his brain is functioning about the same as it always has.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Mark.

Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
Woo! Mark has been moved out of the ICU and can now be visited from 10am-8:30pm, assuming he is actually in his room (he is having surgery on his leg tonight, not sure when). He is in Baird 3 room 387. That means nothing to me as I don't know the hospital, but I will be leaving work a little early to go wander around and find him.
Edit: I updated the visiting hours to reflect the website.

Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
Thank you for posting his room number. I will stop by after work as well.
Anyone happen to know his favorite snack type food?
-
Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
That's Keith! Yeah, I was wondering what to bring him also.
-
Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
I will ask him if he has any requests as I'm going to leave work and bring him a ton of magazines that I had at the house.

Holy hell... sorry to hear Mark. I am sure BBN won't be the same without you.
-
Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
I bet he'll be back to BBN in no time. Probably on 4 wheels for a bit.

Just saw Mark but he didn't see me... He's sleeeeeeeping.
I will be organizing a new helmet / slush fund very shortly.

Re: Not another random crash thread, this time it is one of our own
He isn't allowed any food right now, but once he is I told him that I'm taking requests haha.
He might have been hit by somebody that ran a red light in the next intersection over, but I can't confirm that right now. If that's true, I hope he sues her until she's poor.
He is in and out of lucidity right now, but doing about as well as I had hoped. The doctor mentioned a few times though that it was a "bad injury", as his femur (not his tibia/fibia, which I think is fine) is broken in two spots, with two fractures up hear his hip (where I presume he was hit by the SUV). He might be going into surgery tonight to get a rod and some screws installed. His right side is going to be chock full of metal!
I'll try to post more later, I will be out for awhile.
Edit: Word of warning to anybody with the emergency contact pouches on there helmet: nobody knows they are there. Nobody would have called his parents if we hadn't done it. Very scary. The nurse was surprised when I pulled his helmet out of the closet and showed her the emergency contact information he had readily available. She said that without express authorization they won't call anybody if you are over 18. I'm no longer sure if those emergency contact pouches are considered consent or not.
