    Re: VT Pitbike racing

Tires Mounted, new bars mounted, new levers mounted. Ready to roll cept for one thing.

Throttle doesn't "snap back" anymore...might need help on this one...will soon need a new throttle cable as mine is just starting to fray. If anyone can give a play-by-play on how to get better return to "zero throttle" lemme know. It might have some grit in it from Saturday, but I added a bunch of lube after I had it off. I'm guessing I put it back on wrong....

    Can't wait for Sunday!

    Cheers!!

PS: the guys at Roadside really do kick ass.

Hey Kitt, no idea. If that's common on the Chinese pitbikes, then probably. Send me a PM when you'll be around. Otherwise I can enlist Brett's help.

I'm going to run to Roadside and get a new cable...it's more frayed than I thought after looking at it again.

These bikes are VERY sensitive to cable routing. Try to route the cable so any bends are as large a radius as possible, no pinching, etc.

Fixed the throttle. It was pushed all the way onto the bar...no snappiness. Better now. I'll likely pick up another cable for Sunday just in case. Maybe a project for Saturday...but I always vowed to NOT work on my bike the day BEFORE a track day....I often mess things up worse! We'll see.

I can't get there until noon. I do not have an extra pitbike, Sandy bought it.

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

I'm a bit at Brett's mercy, as I'd be riding with him likely (although I could pack it into the Subie). I do think it would be fun to get there sometime about 9am or so in order to get set up and be riding as it warms up (10-11 or so). Of course I need to scrub in the rubbers before I start riding hard. Not sure if its more than Brett, Doc and me. Especially if we don't have an extra pitbike.

It may be wise to somehow make an announcement so everyone on NESR knows and can join us. Maybe someone out there can bring an extra from the south.

Also, what about those guys in Rutland whose pictures are posted earlier in this thread (full leathers, no socks, and tennis shoes at night...)? Hope to see many there.

    Cheers.

what a rainy, freezing good time. crashed a few times, as traction was a bit hard to find. doc, you missed out!

more peeps need to get into this, i really wish we could follow docs idea from a couple years ago and get a minimotard thing going. its so affordable, fun, and just stupid cool.

sandros, awesome time buddy, glad we could make the best of what the weather handed us!

kitt, i might be down for a little dirty riding on my mini holloween weekend!

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

we couldnt get goin too fast, things were really slick. by the time we would drag knee, we were draggin ass and elbow and shoulder.

tons of fun though, braaaaaap! crash! laugh! repeat!

we squeezed raingear over the leathers, but we both ended up soaked at the end of the day anyway. sandy found out first hand the gator strips here are gnarly things to slide into at 30 mph! he was also the first to crash, on his 2nd lap. i thought for a second i was there with bill

i had my fair share of getoffs as well, with one of the best ones being when i lost the bike out from under me doing a burnout. f-in squid.

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

Ripping good time. Literally. Ripped some rain pants, ripped some snow pants, but nobody's leathers got scuffed! I stepped out the rear tire on the first turn of the second lap. <3minutes in. I stood up laughing and thinking of Bill. You're a few thousand miles west, but still here fella.

missing a turn and running it straight is normally a safety net. But the grass was ICE. Of course the pavement was ice too. My 4 get offs were pretty tame except for the one low side in the fastest turn on the course. Gatorstrips suck on your hip and hands, but totally worth it. The reason these things are a MUST is because even when I low sided, I didn't break a single thing! Grinning all day.

Brett, thanks man. I've not had fun like that in, well, a week actually when we rode 'em in the mud at Billy's! Then again this was waaay different and an OUTSTANDING time. Thank you for driving, and for sticking it out when the weather was complete CRAP.

I can't WAIT to get 4-5 guys out there next spring. I can't wait to ride this sucker on dry pavement! It is outstanding fun, and that was with it ridiculously slippery and wet.

Doc, let Brett and I know what we'll need to do to really get some trackdays and races off the ground. Thanks for helping us get in as well.

    Cheers!

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

Next time, try UPPING the pressure in your tires. Some (Savas) work MUCH better if you raise the pressure in the wet providing near 90% of the traction you get in the dry. Dunlops on the other hand like their pressures dropped. Assuming the pavement isn't horrible you can get decent grip without springing for rain tires.

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

I dropped my TT-92's to ~20psi. I was impressed once I lowered my bars on my forks to give my front end a bit more weight. Of course it handled better but that's also when I lowsided. I have much to learn on the set up.

Yeah, crappy thing is there aren't any common 'dominant' bike setups so each one takes time to figure out. You can't just look online for a baseline to get you close. On the plus side, it's a blast having to ride more to 'dial it in'. : )

    Re: VT Pitbike racing

i was trying to experiment with riding stlyes yesterday in the rainy mess. i dont have a ton of experience with dirtbikes, especially these small ones.

i tried foot out, but unless i was taking a tight, slow corner, it didnt feel right, kinda unstable. i was prob doing it wrong.

i tried the traditiona knee out, and felt good, but in the wet i couldnt really get over very far before i was sliding a lot more than knee.

whats the proper technique for wet cornering on sumo style bikes, im sure the same thing applies on these minis? i was trying to figure out how to keep plenty of pressure on my tires and i just wasnt sure what was correct.

while were at it...dry cornering too...on asphalt of course...i generally know what to do in the dirt i think.

On minis, I ride knee down and try to really hang off with my whole body. I can keep my bike almost vertical through any turn when doing it right.
