VTBN July 31st 2010 Super Cycle Showcase planning.

So... Has anything happened in the planning of this?

    Any volunteers?

The Vision: Bikes set out for people to look at and vote on, Down by the Champlain Mill on the grass and such, Best of Show, Best custom, Best Jap, Euro, American... ETC Ribbons for each winner. Basically a place for people to Mill about and see some motorcycles.
A few vendors to show gear and new bikes, a few trackday organizations, schools, etc. Maybe a Pitbike racing demo or some other excitement.

    Raffle prizes, Giveaways and ???

Damn I gotta get my shit together.

Can someone draft up a little application form (editable PDF) to email/hand out to individuals who would like to enter their bike in the Show? I think that would be a nice formality, as well as giving us an accurate number on who is committed to coming and what category they'll be in.

Name, number, email, # of bikes, year/make/model, restored, original, custom, sponosors/builders/custom parts list.

Then we can assign them a number for "judging" and go from there.

Okay, so what do we have planned all for events? Because if all we have are a few bikes to show and some vendors we are gonna get dirt all over our faces.

    +1 on raffles, prizes etc.

What about music? We could get a band there. I have a buddy with a good band that would probably play. I might need to ask them to stick with their lighter stuff. He's a biker too (young, but still a rider :p).

Can we get a snack vendor in? You know, cotton candy, fried dough crap like that. Not pizza or stuff that would take away from Donny's (what will be the location btw?).

Maybe a swap / sell pit too?

Bill was in charge of the planning. He has handed that off to Adam and Parker.

In their court now. I am just trying to be an advisor and facilitator.

re: VTBN July 31st 2010 Super Cycle Showcase planning.

Alright guys, here's the thread as promised. In this thread you will see all of the updates for the event, and this will also be the place to discuss all of the questions comments and concerns for our July 31st Event.

Our plan is to hold our VTBN's First Annual (Insert Event Name), on July 31st in front of the Champlain Mill on Winooski Falls Way from 10am - 4pm.

We are planning on having a larger event / activity (like the raffle drawing) every hour and then smaller activities or on going activities (like the slow races) in between.

Right now Doc is working on submitting the permit for the space, location and time.

After we find out that we have the permit locked down then we will start contacting people to set up donations, prizes, vendors, and run crew....

If you have any questions, comments, or critiques, that you don't want in the general discussion, please PM or email me (parkermit@gmail.com). After i have been contacted i will discuss your email with the appropriate parties and then get back to you. This is so that emails and PM's aren't going to a different person every time.

The activities that have been discussed so far have been:
    1. Best of Show – Motorcycle Popularity (Best Italian, Jap, Eruo…)
    2. Slow Races
    3. Raffle
    4. Music (We’re looking at having a radio station do it)
    5. *if we are lucky* Dyno
    6. Possibly a gear swap (Not sure about this one because I don’t know how to man it)
    7. ***Your Idea Here***
    8. ***Your Idea Here***
    9. ***Your Idea Here***

But right now we need to focus on locking down a name for this event!!!!

Please feel free to submit any name you want for this event that is catchy and simple to remember.

The list so far is as follows:
    1) Bikes by the River
    2) Rides near the Roundabout
    3) Onion river Ogling
    4) Concours d'Elegance

I thank you guys for your patience in advance. All in all though I want to have fun with this event so keep and open (but realistic) mind and we will see what we can do.

Why? If you're going to go to the trouble of having music, why not get some live bands instead of crappy radio music? I can help with that -- I don't want to be responsible for putting together the show, but I know enough music scene people around here that I can get the ball rolling at least. There are plenty of good local bands that would probably be happy to play.

None of those names really strike me. Number 4 is kind of generic and stuffy-sounding. Try to come up with something that people will remember, that says something about the sort of event it is and what sort of culture to expect. Here are some examples, all of which are upcoming New England events: Mods vs. Rockers, Murdercycles Hot Rod Riot, Rats Nest Run, Gasket Goons, Rust Riot, Brit Jam, Road Devils Boston Massacre, Rockers Reunion, Hot Rod Fallout.

Use your imagination. A play on words always helps. So does alliteration. Some examples off the top of my head:
Roundabout Rodeo (or even use the play on words aspect and make it Roundabout Roadeo)
    Noosk Motor Mayhem
    Champlain Anti-Choppers
    Queen City Moto Madness

It's a good possibility, but to play for 6 hours is too long for one band. I like the idea, but we would need to coordinate at least 3 bands, and account for the set up time for the bands. We do have 4 outlets that we should be able to use to give power to bands if need be. What bands/kinds of music did you have in mind? Do they have samples of their work any where online that we could listen to?

The main reason why i originally moved away from the live bands was simply for the fact of trying to organize the multiple bands. But i am open to absolutely look in to the possibility. (your right, if we find the right bands, it could be much better then radio music, but also more complicated to set up)

I like how the 3rd illustrates more that we are sport bike oriented, but i would also like to try to appear pro sport bike, not anti chopper. But i like the creativity and hints.

    Thanks Mark

re: VTBN July 31st 2010 Super Cycle Showcase planning.

The thing with a Radio station is FREE advertising. Bands would be difficult to arrange, A DJ would be easy.

The Concours d'elegance was to try and len ot an air of sophistication and draw in some people that might not come while lending some ligitamcy to it.

I don't think anything "bikeresque" is appropriate. Definately want to stick within the tenents of Bike night but there will be standards, eurpoean and american bikes there.

I do agree Doc, but i believe that as long as we are very well planned out and set up a proper event and not something that is half-assed, then sophistication will come naturally. When we plan out the details, events, and advertising they will be done right, so that we can show that we are doing this event with class.

Agreed as long as the name does not have, Mayhem, Hogs, choppers, madness, moto, Rodeo, swap, biker, squid, wheelie, burnout, pit, racer, roast, wild,... shall I go on?

There is not a Concours in the area. It would be something new and different. I understand it sounds too "stuffy" and a concours is actually about classic bikes and Bike History. But how about a play on that...

    Motorcyle Concours d'Vermont??

Riverwalk Motorcycle Meander? (Winooski is trying to build up the "Riverwalk")
    Riverwalk Motorcycle exhibit?
    Motorcycles by the River?

re: VTBN July 31st 2010 Super Cycle Showcase planning.

You want sophistication, do it at Shelburne Farms. Or in Stowe.

Don't overthink this. It's a motorcycle event, not a classic car show or museum. There's nothing especially sophisticated about it, and not too many bikes locally worthy of a true Concours d'Elegance. This is rock'n'roll, not Mozart; Suzukis, not Vincents. Stick to the personality of the sport and the sort of people that will be attending -- by all means, stress safety and responsibility, but don't try to turn this into something it's not. Unless you just want to put on a BMW show.

Besides, we've already got events pretty close to a Concours -- the show at the Shelburne Museum last year, the annual British Invasion, etc.

As for the music, my advice would be not to have any at all. It's a distraction, and it either drowns out conversations or gets drowned out itself by engine noise. Or just schedule a couple of bands for the last two hours of the show to cap it off.

This stuff kinda sounds like the event from a few years ago. Change location...minus the dyno. I think it might be gettin really late though, depending on how big you want the event to be...ideally advertising should have started awhile ago me thinks.
