Pit out was in the crash zone for 1a before. This is no diff. I used to camp on the outside of 1a and saw a shitton of bikes slid into the grass there.
T1a is much tighter aka slower. Airfence will be on outside. Safer than lowsiding on the exit of T10 IMO.
Boston --> San Diego
Those turns look great. Hopefully they put more airfence along the wall at the entry with no pre-turn, later braking and higher speeds. Wasn't that one of the AMA's reasons for not coming back before? Now it's worse?
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Without actually seeing this in person, my only concern right now is the entry to 1 in the rain. On the old config, if you tucked the front in the braking area you could easily slide into the tires on the banking, having this deeper means less distance to slide. Hopefully they will be using the additional airfence for this area as well.

I was hoping they'd replace the ice on the exit of turn 2 as part of this.![]()
I was also hoping they would repave the turn 2 entrance.

I'm lookin forward to it... gonna be tougher to get into the teens, but that goal hasn't changed yetLooks like it'll be more of a challenge but I don't see how it could be any more dangerous. My only concern is with camping. My tent NEEDS to be nailed down & not just cuz of wind... it's not a freestanding dome tent.

I assume these changes were designed to slow people down entering Turn 2?
I think it does that effectively, but....
I'm wondering if the smarter move would have been to basically pave that whole area... and then use the moveable stuff that goes on the ground to form the line?
I'm talking about the stuff you see at AMA races sometimes... you can run it over and not crash if you have to... but it's definitely not going to gain you any time.
That way, making a change would have been pretty easy if it was deemed necessary?
Jay. I'll be ontrqck in a hour but from walking it earlier it is not like old 1. Meaning if you preturn and zip right to the left pitwall (danger) area, like in the past, you will be waaaaay too far up the inside of 1. You'd have to park it and make a stupid slow sharp turn. Might be a place to stuff someone but the go setup looks to stay higher longer then bank it in. Anyone trying to stay way left and tight is going to be going hella slow thru 1.
I don't thin T2 is going to be much diff. Maybe a hair slower going in due to tighter 1a.

Boston --> San Diego
shrug.. I'm less nervous about the new track than I am about the forecasted rain.

How much different is this T1 to the original T1? This T1 is the third iteration!
I'm guessing a bit less trail braking. Like others, I'll have to ride it, but since I'm not a regular like lots of you, it won't be a big deal. It takes me a bit to get into my groove anyways.
I like it ... its different. i prefer the old turn 1 right now still, but this works and is a new challenge.
I do not like it in the rain. Shane crashed in the dry and made it to the tires, so I can't imagine how that will be if you crash in the rain there.
I'm really not sure what the purpose of this was ... I don't believe that it was for safety.

Well, with what I've seen here, it looks like it was when Miguel Duhamel crashed,, what, back in 98? So we were told that then, that the "new" T1 would be safer. Again, the way I ride, it probably won't make any difference. Like others I'm sure, just curious.
i def dont like it yet
I like the new 1-1a-2. I practiced on it Thursday in cool dry weather, then again Saturday in the pouring rain. Raced late Saturday when pavement temps were well above the 100 degree mark. There's plenty of grip to be had as anyone who saw the expert motard race or the pass Wood put on Kronan in the dash for cash will attest to.
From a safety standpoint sure it's not ideal, but frankly neither is the rest of the track. As we all know, the track was built for Nascar and then adapted for bikes. If the cash flow from Nascar ceases, so probably will NHMS. I think I'm damn lucky to have a track ~40 minutes door to door from the house and I'm gonna ride the snot out of it every chance I get. If I need to make a few concessions to do that, then by all means sign me up.
I'm not exactly sure what all the fuss is about. They could have shifted the Nascar wall ~150 feet back in turn 1-1a-2 and we wouldn't have AMA back due to other concerns in other areas. As a whole I think the track did one hell of a job making MAJOR changes with minimal impact on us as racers while absorbing the majority of the cost. They very easily could have expanded the RV park by another 6-12 slots (additional money in the door) and told LRRS to run a chicane on the oval from now on (less money spent).
Shrug.. I don't know.. even having raced up there since I was 14 (cars up until this year) maybe my sense of entitlement is less. I've traveled all over the country and raced at various tracks and while there are some minor issues at LRRS that could use some improving (the PA system comes to mind) the amenities we have at our disposal are a great bang for the buck.
Just sayin.....
