Yeah I'll probably do a spare pair this year. I typically buy the cheapo knockoffs. I've bought the high end deals before and personally I'd rather save the cash for tires.

agreed - Plexus sheds water and does a pretty good job preventing fogging. Pinning is a good idea too - especially if your breathing heavy lol

    Good call!

Tires. Brakes. Gear. Three things I wouldn't fuckaround about when buying.

Dunno - I dropped a bike on my knockoff boots at a pretty good clip and my ankles were just fine. I agree they should definately feature armored shell around the ankle- unlike some of the boots I've seen out there that are little more than high tops ha ha. I've had Alpinestars and Sidi and yes they are higher quality craftsmanship and are more comfortable but I'm not certain they crash that much better.

I run a breath guard, and crack my visor up one notch if it's really bad.

That's a good idea - I might have to get one of those pinned systems. I might pick up a few extra visors in case I mess up the installation.

Quality is worth a certain expense though. This is my point.

I've done stupid shit in inappropriate attire and lived to tell about it too. Doesn't mean much.

I've always meant to put together something like this or this.

I don't mind wet feet, I mind heavy, sloshy feet that ooze out water onto the footpegs the first time I put my weight down.

Hmm - maybe a pair of scuba socks would solve the wet boot crisis..

Re: No 100 day countdown to LRRS?

I realize Im going to catch some flack for this but here goes my dry/wet gear setup:

Dry (most of this new for this season)
    Dainese Dair Misano suit
    Sidi Vortice Boots
    Dainese Full Metal Pro gloves
    Shoei X-12 Helmet

Wet Gear (stuff from past two track day seasons)
Dainese RS suit (not the right name but the low end one from two years ago)
    Sidi Vertigo Boots
    Alpine Stars GP Plus Gloves
old north face rain coat to go over this
    Same shoei helmet

I always run a pinlock in my helmet regardless of conditions. It will fog no matter what, so why take the risk.

My dry setup also has the race shield on the helmet, again overkill, but I run a tearoff on the shield to try and preserve the shield. Shields regardless of race or not arent cheap so mine as well try to keep it somewhat nice.

Also have fresh socks in your gear bag, trailer, pit box, etc. I can't stress this enough. I did three trackdays in the rain last season and after the first one I learned my lesson to change my socks after a few sessions. Boots might be wet but at least i was keeping my feet somewhat dry.

Under all of this I wear underarmour or equivalent base layer. I use full length tights for bottoms and a short sleeve top both are from the compression line. Again as with the socks have extra, I have 2 pairs of the tights and 4 shirts.

I also have 2 back protectors, 2 chest protectors, etc.

Again all this is overkill but its something I wanted to make sure I had in my kit.

Oh and Ill be getting a boot dryer as well.

Lastly, check out Hang Dry for the hanger. Hang-Dry – Drying Gear & Suits of Any Kind
FLows a lot more air than anything else I could find. But you will pay for it because of that, imo its worth it to have dry gear.

NHMS (or LRRS if there's a difference) might have a say about the tear offs. They might let you run it as long as you don't use it (actually tear it off) during a race. I could be wrong but I recall Eric saying something about it at the classic last year. Double check.

As far as I can tell from the rule book and by knowing people who do have them. They are legal as long as you dont take them off while on track.

and as I said, I use it more to preserve the shield than for a need to have a clean view.

Up to and including the 2014 rule book, tear-off face shields were not allowed (see §17.1.3). The 2015 & 2016 rule books removed that prohibition (see §7.1.3). I've no recollection of what Eric might have said at the classic.

As mentioned by Kurlon above, for rain and/or cold days, I use a breath guard and keep the shield vents open.

As for drying boots, helmets and gloves ... based on a suggestion from another race forum, I recently purchased DryGuy Force Dry DX with the helmet attachment on a whim ... and then immediately returned it the following day. Great idea, but woefully under powered in both the amount of airflow and amount of heat (mostly nonexistent) it sends through the tubes. It was a joke. Maybe if your sneakers were a little damp from perspiration from an hour long hike on a dry trail, it might be helpful if you had 3-5 hours to kill waiting for them to dry. For our purposes, dry times would have been measured in days/weeks with this unit. I'd advise steering clear.

Run Water Wetter, there is also a list of what is approved for use available at tech.

This is also one of those things they will randomly check.
