    2 Quick Motard Q's

My bike isn't in front of me and I need to order some stuff for my tard...

    1. What is the gearing everyone uses for the tards (CRF, etc)...? I think it's 15-38 and I need a new chain and sprockets.

    2. Can anyone confirm that if you take a pitbull rear stand and bring the lifters in together far enough that you can use it as a front stand for a motard that has fork sliders/spools? The regular fork stand type doesn't work with the tard forks as the legs are different shape and the bike falls off.

    Thanks

    1. ???

    2. Can't confirm 100% but I'm pretty sure that is what Adam Clark is using for a front stand on his CRF. It is a little finicky getting the bike up on the stand but once it is there it seems stable enough.

15-39 for me, I know Christian was running that as well.

Can't confirm on the front stand as I'm running a set of spools...

I use two pitbull ss rear stands on the ktm. I milled out the grooves on the one in the rear so the spools sit better

I ran 15-39. It allows you to get around the track with a little more acceleration. And you won't max it out unless your name is Wood.

    Re: 2 Quick Motard Q's

I max out on the rev limiter at the 4 board with 15-40 but the 39 I found does not offer the grunt out or the corners, if you ask around 15-40 is pretty standard

and i use a pit bull front and rear with the sme axle sliders no problems

Thanks, I have one too though... the problem is the bike and stand aren't together

Ok, the rear though? I thought the front would be the one with the problem.... you milled out the grooves on the spools or the grooves on the actual stand?

I think mine is 38 or 39 and it was always maxed out at the 4 board...

That's what I want to hear... cool.

Guess I still need to figure out what gearing is on mine now so I can duplicate that. It was working pretty well I thought.

Ohhh, I misread...I have a spare harbor freight spool stand which I guarantee will work if you run into trouble. I'll have it at the track with me so let me know if you need it.

As for the gearing, my bike will not hit the rev limiter in 5th with 15-39, but it will hit it in 4th. Motor is completely strung out by the start finish line. Build is very minor, port and polish, stage 2 hot cam, stock piston. Hope that helps.

If you are maxed out at the 4 board running a 15-39 you should be running 18's.

Haven't ridden it in a while but I don't ever recall NOT topping the bike out.

I was doing mostly 23's and a lone 22 or two.

I'm thinking you were running a 14 front then with the 38 rear to get that kind of result. Maybe you want to try the 15-39 or even 15-38 if you don't mind giving up some accel.

sounds like gearing is similar to SVs, maybe just a touch lower.

    Re: 2 Quick Motard Q's

    Thanks James that looks great.

I don't want to blow the couple hundred bucks on the SME setup so I am going to work with a friend and make my own thru-axle slider/spool setups. So I can size/mill the spools such that they fit the stand lifters nicely instead of machining the stand.

Guess I'll have to wait until I get the bike back to figure out chain/gearing stuff... who knows when that will be.

Ive seen a set of SME sliders for the CRF 450 for 125ish. They are a great product. Sadly they are no longer being made so its a get them while you can thing. Ive been having a hard time finding a set for the new KTM.

Im sure your plan will be fine. The one thing I might be concerned about with milling the slider over the stand is strength of the slider. Just going up and down shouldnt be an issue but when you kick a bike over there is going to be a lot of load transferred over to the sliders.

    I bought these...http://www.motostrano.com/SME-6MM-Sp...et-p/sm6mm.htm

Removed the screws and put a threaded rod through em with lock nuts on the end, work perfectly.

Yeah apparently as a set they are 122 on motostrano right now... still kinda steep for four plastic pucks and a rod. I will use a rod setup on the rear, too, instead of the modified axle blocks.

That's basically what I'm looking to do but without spending moneys.

    Re: 2 Quick Motard Q's

Chris...if you can try to find a set of the axle block sliders for the rear. That way there is no threaded rod in the axle to deal with and disassemble every time you want to change a tire. The front you can't avoid, but getting the axle block on the rear makes it a little easier and less time consuming.

Yeah, I think loosening one nut to slide the rod/sliders out is really not a big deal.... especially since motards don't need tires THAT often...

Switching to rains was my concern mostly. Trying to make the process as quick as possible.

Yeah I don't have rains or a second set of wheels anymore... but I'm now consider the SME option at the discounted rate of 122 bucks might be the way to go.

I have a tight budget but I also have pretty little free time.

Does anyone know why they only list 2005-2013 for these on motostrano?

My bike is an 04, will they fit?
