    2014 GP of the Americas

Anyone plan on going, I started looking at tickets last night. Its between this and the formula 1 race and this seems much cheaper so probably going to pull the trigger.

Re: 2014 GP of the Americas

I went last year -- interesting circuit. The guy who designed it has designed many other tracks, and there are a lot of similarities. Several interesting turns with great sight lines, some very long straights, and plenty of decisions made for TV viewing (ticky tack slow corner complexes and many sight lines that suck for spectators but are great for TV). Definitely a cool place to see MotoGP, and kind of the opposite of Laguna Seca. Way better than Indy, in my experience.

Austin is a cool town, too -- I'd aim to go for a race when it's not too hot out.

    Go!!!!!!!

I went last year and it was a great time. Austin's one of my favorite cities. I might go again this year if work needs me in TX around that time, which can probably be arranged. A pre-race NESR dinner would be fun.

When we were there last year we took taxis. Worked out fine and a lot less hassle than dealing with parking!

Re: 2014 GP of the Americas

Schwantz was involved at the beginning of bringing Moto GP to Austin, but then he got cut out of it. He felt cheated and sued. "Free Kevin" was the slogan used by those who agreed he got screwed. Not exactly sure how that slogan fit, because the track had already freed Kevin from the contract he was expecting. There were a few people with "Free Kevin" t-shirts on at the races last year.

Re: 2014 GP of the Americas

not only did schwantz not get any benefit from bringing motogp to TX ($$$$$), COTA banned him from the property. he wasnt allowed to even go to the races.
and from everything i read, KS had all the proof in world that he had a contract and was supposed to be compensated for all his work etc. COTA straight up pulled the rug out from under him and basically renegged on any and all deals and then claimed there was no deal to begin with. screwed is kind of an understatement. hes a legend in moto gp and COTA is just gonna treat him like garbage? unsat.

Re: 2014 GP of the Americas

I had a GREAT time at Indy last year. I hear that cota isn't very family oriented. I have heard that the security there are A holes. You can't bring your own beverage and good there (have to buy theirs). It's a 30 minute walk from parking to track, etc.

    I want to go but....

I'm in. NESR dinner again this year?

I'll be staying downtown and will have a rental car if anyone wants to carpool. No tickets yet, I'm hoping to find someone local to score some of the Costco discounted tix, or maybe I'll go for a grandstand seat this year.

Think I'm going to go the taxi route, most hotels will do a free shuttle so probably just back and forth to the track Sat/Sun. Anyone going for all three days?

Re: 2014 GP of the Americas

Three more of us are going for three days. I'll arrive in Austin on Friday morning. We're staying at the Microtel near the airport. Leaving on Monday after the races.

We got our tix this week. Seated in Ducati Island, Turn 12.

Still looking at transport options. Unfortunately, we won't have our bikes, so we won't be able to take advantage of the free parking.

Never been to COTA or any MotoGP race before. I'm really looking forward to this!!

Going as well. I wish there was some way to have my bike down there with me for the weekend. Too long a drive to trailer down though.

saw that. IMHO, it shouldve never happened in the first place. COTA ends up looking like a bully. im glad that KS got what he wanted and rightly deserved. too bad it took so long.
