    2015 LRRS Suggestions/Feedback

First, before I go into the main purpose of this email I want to say that I was really excited to see so many LRRS riders down at Daytona. Things looked really good and we may be headed back to the old days (when LRRS riders rivaled the hometown Florida riders for the most ROC championships).

With the banquet coming up soon, we've got a chance to put forward proposals for anything you've got for next season. Rules, classes, schedules, track, safety, officiating...whatever you are thinking about it's all open for discussion. I've got a number of ideas but I'm sure that there are many more floating out there. The floor is yours.....

Please consider allowing racers to register with no deadline. Take my cash, radio the grid and slot me into the last open spot on the grid.

    Thank you for the consideration.

    That Eric!
Really no excuse for us to not be able to do that with the great scoring system that we had.

IF they can allow me to register for a race 10' before it starts with pen and paper we should be able to do it at LRRS no problem.

I like the current configuration. Bumps and all. Then again that's all I know. I get very nostalgic about these things.

I found myself wanting to add a couple of races late during the weekend but didn't because of this. Knowing I'd be gridded last would not matter to me. One Reason being I felt good physically to add another couple races.

I would suggest justifing your reason(s) for a change.

    1. Designated trophies for the Novice racers.
    2. Endurance race as a tag-team. Use your own bike and tag the next rider on their own bike. Saves wear and tear and the difficulty of finding a new amateur each year to "volunteer" his bike.
    3. Develop a racer program for guests. A print out of top riders with pictures and bikes, how a race works, what to look for, etc... I think it would make fans more interested in the races.
    4. Broad band broadcast the races. Give Bruce a bigger audience.
    5. Open the Classic up to race fans for minimal money. ($2/ $5?) If we can get more of the bikers from the expo area outside and into the races inside I think we can build a bigger fan base.

    Just a few thoughts.

I would like some sort of pamphlet or flyer. Even if it's something digital that we can post for each weekend. Even the most basic off road events have a digital ad that people post and share, it would be nice to have something like that for LRRS.

That nice curbing that was installed in turns 6 and 7, can we get that in 1, 1a, 3, 10, 11, 12?

    Re: 2015 LRRS Suggestions/Feedback

I would like to see a long, hard look taken at all the class compositions. It seems to me that there are some rather large loopholes that are causing a lot of drama lately and I think we can tighten those up.

The F40 bracket for example allows 1100cc v-twin superbikes but excludes 1000cc I4 which put out comparable power (maybe restrict 1000cc I4 to SS rules if you are concerned about SB I4). I realize that our grids are not big enough to split them the way CCS does with a LW, MW, HW, UN scheme but if we are going to essentially merge the UN, HW, and MW into one mashup, we should allow all the bikes from those classes in in hopes that we will have some larger f40 grids.

Mike, I feel your pain and understand your frustration. My jaw drops every time I see that 1098 disappear down the straights. I must, however, respectfully disagree with your suggestion.

Formula 40 is run with Formula 40 Lights, both am and ex. We hit lap traffic by the second lap. The closing speeds with lap traffic is scary enough already and has caused numerous issues. To have a bunch of I4 1k experts racing around amateur F40 Lights is just a recipe for disaster.

Plus, I think I4 1k’s will have an unfair advantage against those on 600’s. I know the response is that a 600 is (or was) the fastest bike around the track ... but that’s not through lapped traffic ... which, again, we hit by the second lap. To me the I4 1k, with its ability to use its hp to point and shoot between lappers, has a distinct advantage. One balk on a 600 from a lapper and your race is pretty much done against a I4 1k. You know that, as we’ve both seen the 1098 disappear in traffic, darting from one lapper to the next.

I also think opening F40 up to I4 1k’s would be inapposite to LRRS’s goal of trying to keep racing affordable. If you open F40 to I4 1K’s, those who want to be competitive will need to go out and get a new bikes ... oh, and I understand those I4 1k aren’t gentle on tires (more costs).

The 600’s, I4 750’s and v-twin 999’s (Aprilia’s) are all still pretty competitive with one another. Personally, I’d rather see the class left the way it is. However, if something needs to be done about the 1098, I’d rather see the class limited to 1000cc v-twin, rather than open it up to I4 1000cc. Otherwise, split the class into [LW], [MW], [HW & UN]. If there aren’t enough HW & UN to justify the class, then drop the UN and merge MW & HW back again.

    I second this!

For class compositions ... I’d like to see the return of F50 to compliment F50 lights.

    Re: 2015 LRRS Suggestions/Feedback

I do know that there is a proposal to run CCS style F40Light, F40 MW and F40(which is unlimited) as separate classes. We just need the entries to support it. MW guys could potentially run (and win) both MWF40 and F40.

Curbing is on the schedule (I've asked for it a few times), but I'm hoping for a whole repave and additional length of track. No word on that as of right now.

Tag team endurance - I can tell you that is likely. There will possibly be both a traditional and tag team class for the endurance. Details to follow.

Program or Flyer - It is something that would be GREAT! It is, however, a ton of work and someone needs to do it. Volunteers?

Late registration - I'll put that out there and see what the objections are.

That's it? Everything else is perfect?

I pleaded with Tom B. for a Facebook link to publicize the Loudon Classic & was told it would happen several times over... and nothing. They are spending thousands on staffing for each LRRS weekend - it would only be in their best interest $$$$$$ to use the FREE marketing sources that are available: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter - people actually use this stuff!

I don't think there is much hope for ever having a "fan base" beyond family members. It is hard for outsiders to follow along, and not all that exciting to watch. That being said, some kind of structured, sanctioned group ride from Laconia to NHMS during the Classic could maybe draw a crowd? Maybe make it a charity event?

I think the excitement that is already on the track would be something even non-racers or families would want to watch IF there were better viewing areas. It really is a horrible place to spectate right now. Hopefully if length of track is added, they will try to do it in such a way that fans can see more than one corner at a time. Right now the stands in 6 are fun for a while but once you've had enough of that view, it's tough

    Re: 2015 LRRS Suggestions/Feedback

The (enormous, always empty) NASCAR stands outside of T's 1 and 12 are great places to watch. The inside of T1A isn't bad either. T3 was a nice spot until the inside wall was built.

Plenty of good passing in all of those places. Passing => excitement.

Also nothing quite like watching a start from less than 2' away via the other side of the NASCAR fence. The noise the MW's and HW's make when they go past is pretty impressive.

Plenty of good places to spectate from. All are open to those that show up and pay.

I will agree that the races are infinitely more interesting when you have someone to look/root for. Without being related to or good friends with a rider, the only way I see building up a "fan favorite" is through some sort of external marketing. I think.

Only half joking here, with the racer/spectator ratio we could have a "pit crew fantasy camp" for everybody who comes to watch. Assign a random match to racers in need, and the fan can fuel the bike, take off warmers, and give signals on the front straight wall!

I dont like my friends to touch my stuff right before I go on track, mind you, friends I have zero hesitation help work on or fix things at other times. But that's my game face time, I REALLY don't need some rando interrupting my process.
