I fully expect y'all to slow to parade pace for the last lap of the opening race so I can at least podium in 'my' class once this year.
Screw that, to the stops for all 8 laps, let the tinker toys scream!
Hello,
Long time racer here.. new to the forum... Just wanted to know your guy's thoughts on the de-stroked race bikes? Currently all the rage in LW 40 50 and GP. My to cents is its a cheater bike that some have found a loop hole in the rules, (as the rules where in place to make superbike FZR400's legal in the day and never changed with the times)
Also how are theses bikes going to be checked to be deemed legal? or does someone need to protest them to have them checked? And unless you have one your chances just got slimmer to podium in theses classes...making it a de-stroked class How does CCS look at theses bikes? Can you run one at Daytona or other venues outside of Loudon? thanks and take care
Welcome.
I didn't thoroughly look, but the couple guys I knew of running them were finishing pretty far off the podium as well as had blown engines in the middle of the season. So in the long run, not sure how much advantage they had.
That being said, they pull like crazy down the straight and would love to see what Ducette, Mullen or Gaboreo could do with one. Definitely cheater bike.

They are confusing as hell in practice. I had a few "am I supposed to be out here?" moments. Partly from the noise and partly from getting smoked on the straight.
Hey Muz, welcome to the forum.
As someone on an SV that has to battle these guys on occasion, it definitely mixes up the competition & makes things tougher, that's for sure. But IMO it makes for an interesting race. They may have more power and are tough as nails to get by, but they're also much more difficult to ride fast compared to the much more easy-to-ride SV's and Monsters. You really gotta plan out your passing strategy and/or put yourself in a position where you're ready to immediately take advantage of any mistakes.
As for whether or not they're "cheater" bikes... the guys I know that are on em are pretty experienced racers... so I wouldn't necessarily say it's all bike... the riders themselves are pretty talented, too. At the end of the day, if you beat em, you know you earned it.
As for checking, I think you'd have to use the protest option... tear em down & physically check displacement.

Started in 83 on a gpz 550 got married kids / picked it back up in 91 Fzr 400 been pretty steady since raced lots of different stuff over the years. Some success. Sometimes not so much.Only tried to retire twice. Been racing a Buell the last fee years crashed in the cold Oct. Weekend moving on to a Ducati 748 for the next chapter in my club racing career
If I'm using your wallet to make it happen, I'm game.
Edit: Ok, figured out the Dollar Bill Special!
Take on Hyabusa, lop off one cylinder. Light destroke to bring the cripple triple down to 900cc. Toss the water pump, add an electric oil pump in it's place pulling oil from the sump and flooding the head/cylinder with it so it's an air/oil cooled machine ala Ducati...
Just like Richie, missing some nut and oil where it shouldn't be.![]()

At the last round tech had a stock R6 they were using to test some measuring equipment they had to see if it was possible to quickly check bore/stroke without removing the engine from the bike. I don't think that proved completely successful with what they had on hand but I believe they had some other ideas and were planning on investigating other measuring equipment. My understanding is they would like to be more proactive with regards to measuring in the future without other riders protesting to make it happen.

Guess I need a motard then. Who knew. ...
NHMS is a track where just peak HP isn't going to determine the outcome. You need handling, you need a machine that can deal with imperfect surfaces, and you need a spread of power rather than a big peak. Motards happen to work beautifully at NHMS as a result of the layout.
Got ya, common knowledge that short tight tracks equal out big and small bikes . And that makes the rider part of the equation a bigger deal . Was being sarcastic for the most part and uping my post count ...
Answered my own question

Thanks to all the wrote in or posted about a ULGP class and especially Eric for representing us all. This is great news for the few non SV or middleweight folks. Hopefully the class will get the entries to support a long term solution for the non-traditional bikes and the class continues to grow.
We will see how the ULSB class pans out, maybe it will get more folks down to Daytona in that class. Just start setting aside your money for that 90HP Spears build for the trip! A stock bore SV down there would be knife to a gunfight.
Bill an SV MUST be stock bore in ULSB.
Also I think I did fairly well on a stock bore SV even in expert
although i do agree that the easy/better way to do is NOT an SV platform, if you got the $ ducati and destroked machines all day.

I was talking about the LW classes in general
ROADRACING WORLD MAGAZINE "New Jersey Motorsports Park has upgraded the paint used on its track to FIM-approved anti-slip paint. "
so why isnt loudon using this?

Eric and other officials,
I know there are a lot of technicalities and details with insurance and laws we got to follow. But the originally would we ever be able to have a night endurance race at NHMS?
Again it's a very theoretical question, I know many of the regulars would cry about having to put lights on their bikes and let others ride them, etc but if we ever got the interest (let's say 15+ teams) would it be a possibility?
Im gonna put this up as another person who would be interested in this. Ive watched plenty of motorcycle endurance racing and riding around at night would be awesome. I dont mind putting lights on the bike, just needs one high beam light, and a tail light which isnt too hard at all.
When Bob Bahre bought Bryar Motorsports Park and began transforming it into NHIS, he had to spend a lot of money, jump through a lot of hoops and agree to certain restrictions in order to proceed with his dream. One stipulation was that he had to promise that there would be no night racing at the track. This is a promise that is not easily undone.
