    Re: 2022 MotoGP Discussion (Spoilers)

I don't think Jay or I are hating on Zarco... he's fast and talented, neither of us can't deny that... he IS fifth in fantasy points & 5th in the championship on a satellite team which is certainly something.

I think we just don't see eye to eye on the coolness factor. I think you just have a thing for Frenchmen...

Miller's 10th in fantasy, 9th in championship... Sucks he binned it last weekend cuz he'd be right up there next to Zarco.

I do not hate Zarco. I just think he's boring. I bet he's a super cool dude in real life - but not as a motorcycle racer. He doesn't show much signs of just pure outright speed and comes across as more calculating.
Jack, on the other hand, is a very entertaining person. I probably wouldn't be the best of friends with him in real life?

When Jack encounters bumps, or rain, or low grip, he rides his heart out and doesn't complain. He acknowledges the situation and doesn't blame anyone or anything (especially not the bike or his crew).

I want Jack to win. I want him to scrap it together as an underdog. I don't care if he's on Pramac or Factory. The truth is that he can win when others can't.
Zarco is too much of the same flavor of every other "middle of the pack" MotoGP rider. Might get a win when others fall. Won't challenge for the title.

    That's about it.

    Re: 2022 MotoGP Discussion (Spoilers)

I don't think Zarco is a title contender, he's a journeyman. He showed flashes of it at Tech3 Yamaha and of course his back-to-back Moto2 championships, but I think the opportunity has passed him by with the other talent in the field. TBH I wasn't a big JZ fan until he joined Ducati. He was damn exciting to watch during Moto2 and on the Yamaha. I didn't like the KTM situation, particularly his exit. Ultimately he wasn't comfortable with the KTM and the development of the bike and bet on himself. The character he's shown since then is why I'm a JZ fan. He's grown a lot with Ducati and has become a dependable, level-headed rider. He's always been very candid with the press but has done a great job in managing his disappointments since leaving KTM.

Its normal for many of us mortals to have to swallow our pride and knuckle down for the sake of our careers. For someone who has the money to say "fuck it" and walk away to subjugate themselves and make the adjustments necessary to be successful is an admirable quality. It shows a clear passion for your profession and confidence that you'll be able to deliver. A real comeback story.

So yeah, he will almost certainly not win a GP championship, but I'm pulling for at least one more backflip.

Okay, Martin and Miller both crashed out.
Miller goes down $100k to 2.9m; Martin goes up $100k to 3.0M.
Miller is higher in the standing; has completed 3 races vs Martins 2.

    Very confused.

Oliveria - finishes 5, is higher than Miller in the standings - his price is still $2.6M - no change.
Bastianini - crashes out, losing lead in the championship - add $100k to his price ($3.3M)
I think some of these valuations are put in place to keep you from collecting a super team. Should have picked up Q man last round but wanted to keep Rins....

Zarco pulls this with KTM and he's applauded
Maverick does it with Yamaha and he's blasted

I know that I tend to fall on Maverick's side, however, KTM is clearly throwing 100% of everything at this project. Yamaha is rolling over and dying.

The latest quote of Maverick with Aprilia doesn't help my story - but my point stands.

Mav hasn’t shown any change in his character or any ability to accept any responsibility for his lack of performance. Zarco being able to make that change and take some accountability is the difference.

I like Zarco; didn't care for Miller much until I watched this interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgke74E_uwU

Dude is hysterical, a total redneck. Honestly the whole thing is entertaining.

Miller is awesome, 100%. He isn't the problem, it's his fan base. They're like Cowboys fans. The guy definitely deserves to be in GP, just don't think he's ever shown he's deserving of a factory seat.

First, this isn't (and hasn't been) a Miller vs Zarco argument. I've been consistent on that. Second, if this is your opinion of Zarco then you haven't been paying much attention for the last couple of years.

    Fair enough, I'll drop Miller.

What's he done to sway your opinion since the KTM stunt? All I've seen brought up so far is "managing disappointments." I'll agree that he is much more level headed now and a more consistent rider. But that also makes him a more boring rider. He was much more exciting on the Yamaha where he was seemingly fighting for every position. I liked it when he wore his heart on his sleeve a bit more. He did show shimmers in his battles with Jorge Martin at last years Qatar. Nothing else really stands out to me, but I could be overlooking it.

Similarly, I think Joan Mir is a pretty boring rider too. I'd probably throw Pecco in that group too. But they got a bit more Alien in them.

I'll be genuinely happy for him when/if he gets his first win. And who knows, he may find himself a championship winner through that consistency. I'll eat the humble pie.

He's had quite a few memorable moments that have bumped up his likeability for me. There's the obvious long lap penalty at Brno which will never be outdone. Absolute boss move. The way he handled the big crash he had with Frankie at Styria I think was very professional. Everyone was about 50/50 on who deserved the blame in that incident. Johann did not accept responsibility for the crash (and I don't think he should have) but was still very respectful of Frankie. If you remember this was a pretty controversial incident when it happened and has led to the track implementing a chicane this season. I've pointed to his Brad Binder song and riding the vintage Ducati from France to the Aragon GP and being cool things he's done that have let his personality show.

Watch the post-race press conference from last weekend. He isn't loud and boisterous like Jack, a dingo did not eat his baby, he has not drank beer from his boot. He is very honest and forthcoming though. During the presser is when the BIG Moto2 crash happened, I think the reaction from all three of the riders is very telling. Johann and Fabio are visibly concerned. Aliex is of course, a dickhead.

What I'm getting at is there's a real human element with JZ that we don't get from most of the riders. Jack and Johann are very unique in that regard. Jack has the underdog story and everyman component. Johann is a former world champion, disgraced, with a redemption story. Both are very cool in their own right, you just have to listen a bit more closely to understand Johann.

And yes, Pete, I have a little Frenchman in my pants.

Pretty good race yesterday! Pecco and Fabio’s pace up front was hot, I can’t believe they stayed that close and Fabio couldn’t mount a challenge. Jack finished better than I expected in that group, with about 7-8 to go I figured he was going to bin it. Marc did some alien things which was cool to see again. Saving the front was cool, that big fucking darkie on the dirty part of the track to pass Jack for P4 was cooler.

Moto2 was another good one, good for Ai Ogura. Canet’s effort was unbelievable. Too bad for Cam, well done Joe!

It is indeed true....Possible that a satellite team could pick up the outfit and run a team for '23 but at best that's a stay of execution. Rumor has Mir going to Repsol on Pol's seat. Nothing on Rins yet but I doubt his talent will go unemployed.

They've invested all of their money trying to put an electric starter on their dirt bike. Nothing left for racing. No starter yet either.

I heard they are almost done with an electric bike but can’t figure how to mount the kickstarter.

Yeah but if Suzuki says "with what money?" is Dorna going to pay for the program? Makes me wonder how those contracts actually work and what's in em.

There are likely liquidated or consequential damages, Suzuki will have factored that into the decision and still said fuck it. Sucks for the series, but with Suzuki, Kawasaki and BMW unwilling to play I’d say Dorna has work to do.
