But man, what a weekend!

MotoE Race 1 was PHENOMINAL. Comparing Race 2 to Race 1 is totally unfair because Race 2 was good in its own right, but comparing it to Race 1, it was a snoozefest!

The GP was damn near as good as MotoE R1... I haven't seen that many spectacular passes in a single race in a LONG time. Holy cow.
And Pecco, finally finding his form and not letting the pressure get to him was super nice to see.

... Lastly, no, I don't wanna talk about my fantasy team.


EDIT: Oh shit... how could anyone post in this thread without bringing up Marquez's surgery?! He'll be out for the rest of the year for sure. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he's ready in time for off-season testing. Hell, I'll be surprised if he's ready for round 1 of 2023.

This is definitely making funny season even more funny, eh? People talking about Rins or Mir jumping to Honda in the coming weeks. (Not actual rumors, just wishes)

The racing the past couple of years has been fun to watch. Good time for new people to come in and watch. I don't think the Lorenzo snoozefest when he was winning was entertaining at all. He was way too smooth of a rider. I guess at least when Marquez was dominating he at least kept it interesting to watch him toss that bike all over. I hope he is able to come back from this next surgery and fight for wins. From what I've read this is his last shot at getting his arm and shoulder right.

So, I’m an orthopedic surgeon, fellowship trained in hip and knee reconstruction. I do work on trauma patients and have been able to fixate numerous humerus fractures. Before I write anything else I just want to clarify that I do not like to talk badly of my colleagues and I am only posting so maybe you guys can have a clearer picture of what went wrong with his accident and his recovery. Don’t go hating if you don’t care.

The original fracture was a pretty straight forward case. The issue there is that the radial nerve loops around the humerus around that part so it’s possible that you can have a temporary lesion. Usually you can determine that by examining the patient before the surgery and asking him to extend his wrist. It is not like the media and dr Mir said that it all depended on the status of the nerve during the surgery. They already knew whether it was injured or not. Of course, the mobilization of the nerve during surgery can end up causing it to go numb, but again, you find about this after the patient wakes up and you ask him to perform the same task. I feel like the whole nerve damage narrative was just BS and a way to watch their backs.

On to the actual surgery: (again, I am not a perfect surgeon and only those who do not operate have no complications) It was a very poor job. The plate had a lot more screws than it needed. We have this surgical principles and they did not respect any of them. To be honest when I saw the post op x rays I couldn’t believe that they had performed such a poor surgery on such a big athlete. It was bound to fail sooner or later. An intramedullary nail would have been way better for his specific needs. It could have healed with the surgery they did but no way in hell I would have allowed him to get on a bike 4 days after.

Then, the whole “stress accumulation” around the plate is a stupid and feeble explanation of what happened. The plate and screws started loosening the moment he started using his arm. The construct was too rigid. Opening the window was the end point of something That started the moment they finished stitching the wound.

Now, I don’t know what they did exactly on the second surgery so all this is speculation around the fact that he is not doing as good as he should and a third surgery is rumored to be around the corner. I imagine they re did the surgery with a plate and screws construct but probably respecting surgical principles this time around. I imagine the fracture is not healing because all the manipulation messed up the bone biology. The third surgery (if it’s true) is probably to use bone grafts to stimulate bone healing. Sometimes you need to change the implant (use the god damn Rod already) and sometimes you don’t. If he is to miss 2021 it’s because bone quality must be very poor and they are concerned with a re fracture (the poorer the bone quality the less force you need to fracture it again) It could only be that it has not healed at all. My third hypothesis is that it has healed already and they just want to remove the plate and screws, but, if you do that so soon after it heals the risk of refracture is super high because you have all those tracks where the screws went through the bone. So maybe they want to remove it soon so his own body can fill up those holes (it would take around a year).

To summarize: the cause of his absence and Poor recovery timeline is the way they did the first surgery. Everything that has come afterwards is in direct relation to the poor job they did on that surgery. I dislike the guy personally but it is more dr Mir’s fault than his own fault. Again just my opinion, i would gladly answer questions although my posts don’t do too well here haha. Sorry for long post

That was brutal, can't believe he's alive. Looked for sure like he would have broken his neck.

Would not be surprised to see a double long lap penalty. Seems like the Honda continues to struggle with front end feel.

I think if if you were to take an isolated look at each of Takka's recent incidents, none of them would really seem all that egregious.

But if you look at them collectively, you'll surely see a pattern emerging...

Dorna should do the right thing & penalize him... dbl long lap as suggested above or even a back-of-grid or Pit Lane start. SOMETHING to help rebuild trust with the rest of the grid.

And Honda should give him a front end that actually has some feel. SOMETHING to help rebuild his trust with the front tire...... and again, with the rest of the grid.

I couldn't believe the commentators kept talking all about how hard Rins hit the deck. Yes, it was worthy of discussion in its own right, but they completely ignored Takka's damn near deadly faceplant to Pecco's rear tire... That looked so nasty, I can't believe Takka came out of that without serious injury. I'm grateful he didn't, but you KNOW he's feeling it this morning.

Don’t really agree with that. Discipline (not just in racing) should be progressive for all but the most serious infractions. A DLL will spoil anyones points making prospects, pretty good wake up call in this game.

Also remember that Takka is fighting for (and losing) his seat. He’s pushing a bike with no front end feel as hard as he can to try and stay in the show.

I was thinking back to when Simoncelli was taking people out, Pedrosa a couple times? I don’t recall what the punishment may have been.

The 1st incident with Rins was a 50/50 deal, Rins was not guilt free on that one! As far as the last one well it's a racing thing in my mind with so much importance on the start, I can see him running it in there hard, dumb mistake for sure but completely understandable given the circumstances. Should he be penalized? I say no! Nasty crash, very lucky boy! and yeah, I don't understand why the boys in the booth had nothing to say about it? scarry stuff in slow motion.. Arai!

There was a camera angle from outside the entrance to Turn 1 that showed his chin piece striking the tire. Above the axle line, rotating over the top and him falling into it. Really gnarly stuff.

Just about everybody in the whole field has had their ups & downs this year. I think we can count on one hand the number of riders/teams that have had any significant consistency.

The only thing that's been consistent is that everyone's been inconsistent.
