250/300 class for LRRS next year?

Eric Wood made the announcement this weekend there will be a 250/300 class in 2014 geared towards lower budget racing and beginners. I hesitate to shop for a 2nd race bike until the rules are firmed up a bit but it sounds like it would be a blast. Anyone have more information than "It's gonna happen"?

I'm going to wait to see how the rules are written before getting excited. If they adopt the CCS ULTB rules as written, a CRF250R modded up will blow the doors off anything else.

I think they are far enough along to say it's definitely happening. I've heard we should see rules before the end of this season, so finges crossed.

You got a lot of money? You're gonna need it.

And maybe just pay for Jake Vader to ride it for you.

Re: 250/300 class for LRRS next year?

This is getting some discussion on the fb page. So far the comments from Eric have basically said that the 300 will be production twins rules, the 250 and CBR will be supersport rules. IF they decide to allow the new KTM RC390, that will be held to production twins (though it's a single I think), ninja 300 will be held to the same but allowed a pipe, and cbr will be allowed superbike rules. I'm definitely in on this next year. The only debate right now is the ninja or the KTM. Even at that, if the ktm is allowed I'm going with it, assuming it makes it stateside early enough.

I would be ashamed to make my return on a bike half the size of the one I need for 13's, but it DOES sound fun... with less of a tire bill.

Specifically, Eric said 390 bone stock, Ninja 300 pipe only (aka PTwins) and the 250s in full Superbike trim. In that setup, I dunno if the CBR can compete even with a dumptruck load of cash, will depend on the exact rule structure. In ULTB rules however... mwahahahaha!

We already had a cheap fun class with bikes all the same and low tire bills and close racing.

    Mmmmm RC 390

Wonder what availability would be for the 390. Just put a call into Cliff's to see if they had any inside info. Apparently there was no 390 talk at the most recent KTM dealer's meeting. Still can't confirm it will even make it to the US. really hope it does, though.

That was me thinking out loud...more looking for feedback than anything else. If the KTM comes to this country as a street bike and it is allowed, it would certainly be a bone stock rule. Ninja 300 - maybe bone stock, maybe a pipe. Ninja 250 and CBR 250, go nuts (within a certain limit). The goal, obviously would be to make the bikes as even as possible. For the bikes that get modded up (the old ones), we will do a lot of research to figure out what has been done to achieve what result, so that someone does not punch out a CBR250 to 400cc and make a class killer. Motard bikes are not going to be in this class as I see it right now.....I feel that's maybe not the spirit of what we are looking to do here.
