    advanced school?

So I'm thinking about taking the advanced school before the next race weekend.

I wondering if its worth it for me yet to take it, or if I need some more racing seat time before I take it.

I'm running 24s consistantly right now (after 3 weekends ... one being the flood) and dipping into the 23s. I know where I can make up time and such, but would I benefit from the advanced class so soon?

maybe I should rephrase the question ...

as anyone taken the advanced school? did you find it useful ... what type of improvement did you see at the end of the day?

what (consistant) times were you running before the school and did those change after the school?

If you don't mind taking it a few times. It's more benifitial when you plateau not when yo'ure already learning yourself and dropping your times. Why don't you start with talking to the people who are faster than you and work from there. You're still new and could learn from the people running a few seconds faster than you, you don't need to learn from the people running 13s. I've found with many people they will learn better from someone who is closer to their level than someone who is 10 steps past them.

this is a good point ...

peter kates keeps saying to me in one form or another that I should take the advanced school ... who knows

i guess I want to make sure that I am at a level that I would get something out of it rather then be there saying "wow those guys are fast ...."

you might get something out of it to drop 2 seconds, then are you gonna take it again to drop two more, and again for two more?

Like peter knows anything anyways....he's only been racing since i was sperm....

But seriously folks....There's plenty of places to start. For example. Talk to people who you are running a close race with, in front of you and behind you. See where they pull away from you and where you come up on them. Talk to them after. "You've got me here, but I gain a lot on you there, how are you taking that section..." You will be able to relate to someone closer to your level much better.

    thanks for the input ...

one of the guys I pit with is moving up to AM with me ... i am alittle quicker overall than he is, but there are sections where he says he catches me.

He and I will have to talk more after the races ...

or you can let me know where I can improve when you lap me at the next weekend

You will get out of the school exactly what you put in. There is not one single person that won't learn something at each school, in fact there is so much to learn, practice then execute during a race, that I learn some thing new every time I teach it. There is no guarantee you'll go faster, some times you need to slow down and learn new habits before you can apply them at speed.

Following others and talking to them can work, but I'll tell you I've seen many guys riding a good pace lap time wise, but are working twicce as hard as they need to by riding improperly. You will make gaoins faster and safer with a good instuctor and a coach. Often just trying harder means more business for me.......

The school is set up to be able to take any one on any bike and give them the tools to go faster, safer and with less effort. By forming good habits now you will not have to un-learn them later. A guy like you that is doing mid 1:20's should be able to get down to the low 1:20-1:21 range within 1-2 week ends. Then the next big jump is to a 1:19-1:18. Don't get frustrated, as you go faster the improvements get smaller and harder to achieve. Take the school, it's only, what $200??? I've left more than that in strange women's underware.

And Jay, you were a little older than sperm when I started racing, but you were still talking with a lisp and shitting in diapers......

Why not learn what to shoot for from the beginning?

If you can afford it, see what you are supposed to be doing, and then concentrate on that.

I've never taken it or any school, but it's mostly because of finances. I'd think you could always learn from it. It'd be good to get some direction early in your career. Might save you some frustration.

Sax--- take the school, it's well worth it + you will learn some good habits, etc. now!
Even mushmouth Kates makes some good points here.

nothing against you or your riding, but I think you bumped up to Am too soon + you need to learn more + practice it especially riding with them there fast 600 yahoos + the 600 morons.

take the Adv school + Use it to learn

maybe ... but i'm also running quicker than a hangful of guys in that AM class now though ...

who is to say what the right thing to do is?

I have probably about 1500 miles logged on that track so far (which is just a scratch compared to others, but more than some of the AM now (or so they have said)), but this is not my first, nor 2nd year riding loudon. I feel comfortable and smooth out there and I know that I am predictable ... so I won't be a hazard in the AM class.

My speed my not be there yet, but that will come in time, and I hope being in AM might help me get there alittle quicker.

I was winning races in mulitple Novice classes and running winning times in multiple Amateur classes when I reached the required 10 race limit. I was already the fastest Novice in the two classes my bike was competitive in. Also, I'd run in the Top 5 in MW Supersport and Top 3 in HW Supersport, on a Hawk, during my 4th and 6th races.

If I was you, on your bike, in your classes, running where you currently are, *I* wouldn't upgrade to Amateur yet. That's just *my* opinion if *I* was in your shoes. IMO running mid 20's on a 600 isn't Amateur material, sure some guys do it, but *I'd* rather not be that guy. If I was on a 600, I probably wouldn't consider moving up until I was running consistent low 20's (21's or lower) at minimum and/or easily running in the Top 5.

Again, hey, that's just me and what'd I'd do. You are going to do what you want to do. I just happened to agree with everything Chad wrote. Hence I ain't trying to shit in your cereal here man, you know I've been on your side since Day 1.

Like I said the other day, I've done 15 races at this point, after the July races you'll have done more than I have. Ergo: I'm the newb compared to you now

Again, have fun during the AdvSchool.

I'm only looking for a consistent few tenths. It's suprisingly hard to find time at this stage. Beaver Run required an entirely different style, and while it won't work for all of Loudon, I think it could help me shave a few tenths in the first section. We'll see...
