I'm wondering how it would affect the fitment of a suit for a rider who is using chest and back protection. Would this item require a rider to go up in suit size in order to stuff everything inside?

You wear it over your suit, so size your gear as normal, buy a vest that fits your choice of gear.

There are video reviews on YouTube. The vests use replaceable CO2 cartridges to inflate.

They're very common over the past 5 years on the west coast. Some guys swear by them, others don't care. I never wore one so can't comment first hand.
