    AM - EX bump

I'd imagine Brian F., Kyle R., Steph M., Hemstreet and quite a few others.

Who's looking forward to the winter bump for next year to expert?

    (congratulations on your seasons)

Yup I will be bumping. In fact I need to email Brenda to find out what the procedure is so that it is all set for when I send in my license renewal for next year.

You definitely deserve it! Next year I'll see you ~15 seconds sooner in GTL.

While I have the times, in at least 5 races and over 2 rounds... I'm almost leaning towards staying in AM to work on race craft and lines.

What is the LW bump threshold anyways? I don't even know. I do know I certainly don't believe myself to be fast enough.

Makes sense. I only just got to relatively consistent 1:22s so clearly I'll be holding off. The best was 1:22.2.

I think you're pretty much there but makes sense to do a round or two as am if that makes you comfortable.

    Re: AM - EX bump

Not trying to threadjack but I find it interesting that there's no Ultralightweight bump threshold for Am => Ex.

There was one from Nov => Am, 1 second slower than the LW threshold.

So basically the bar is as high for a motard or a 125GP bike as it is on an SV, or basically any smaller bike other than a Formula 300 bike?

Just wanted to make sure I was reading the rulebook correctly and see if anyone had thoughts on why there aren't different tiers for such different bikes....

Note - I'm not agitating for a bump because even if I were ready on the motard, I think I have some issues to work out on the big bike before I'm ready.

Congrats on everybody who made the bump. Had a goal of joining the Ex ranks after this season, but looks like I've got some work left to do.

I'm OK with that. Can't be called a sandbagger if you don't meet the times right?

The current lap record for ultralight is 1:15 so 110% is 1:22.5. so either 1:22 or 1:23 depending on how they want to round.

    5.5.2 Amateur to Expert

5.5.2.1 Amateur riders must show a good safety record to be considered for advancement to expert.
5.5.2.2 LRRS reserves the right to deny Expert status to any Amateur who meets the criteria for advancement but has not shown the ability or experience for Expert competition.

You're the expert here, but you sure about that? I get the 110% thing, but it's just weird that an UL bump time isn't listed in the rulebook...maybe an unintentional omission?

One thing I've been unclear about, if it were, say, 1:22, does that mean your lap times have to be below 1:22.0 or does it mean they need to be 1:22.X? Because when somebody runs a 1:19.9, they're going to say "I was running 19's"... I'm sure this has been asked before....

Word. Meeting/exceeding bump times is necessary but not sufficient.

    Re: AM - EX bump

I do intend to take the bump. Not sure if I have to petition or wait? I've been knocking off 21's since the classic so number of races at the threshold is not a concern.

Brian brings up a good point about license renewal, so i think i'll be emailing Brenda.

    Yup, that easy.

Get ready to get your ass kicked for 7 rounds next year. The hard work starts once the white plates are slapped on.

But it's better than sandbagging, no? Always gotta push yourself.

I'll be sandbagging another year due to my accident

    Don't you mean "accidents"? Lol

I talked to Graham this weekend about it. A motard is considered lw not ultralight. He said, no 21s, no bump. I personally feel ready mentally and I'm on the threshold for times, but apparently I need 21s.

I think it's interesting that we have so many amateur sand baggers and when you have someone who knows he's ready, they get shot down becaus of half a second in their times.

Oh well. Looks like I have all winter to tune my new ride for next year and just destroy it next year.

Odd that motards have to meet LW threshold when they run in Ultralightweight races

I find that odd too.... Are there many people besides Gnarlybonne that are competitive against SV's on a motard?

Much to my chagrin, as a novice I found I was no longer able to buzz by too many guys on SV's after they had a couple weekends under their belt in Starter/Novice/Rookie/Formula 3. I haven't raced against SV's as an amateur, but judging from practice with them I prolly wouldn't be buzzing by too many of them.

But, like I said, I'm not agitating...Roland put it best when he said it's not sandbagging if you're not making their time thresholds.

I'm all about challenging myself, but I won't complain if they force me to add some more AM trophies and contingencies to the stash before I'm relegated to the bottom of the expert totem pole.
