    Interesting Aprilia concept

This looks interesting. Would it qualify for LWSS? Be even better if they built it with the SXV 5.5.

Cool looking for sure. If they built it with the 5.5, it'd blow up twice as much

Why is Roland sands obsessed with making roadracers out of motard/dirtbikes? Has he not learned that there are bikes that begin life with geometry more suited to pavement? And that they would be lightyears easier to get set-up?

    Re: Interesting Aprilia concept

Note that article is almost a year old... there hasn't been anything new out of the RSD camp for awhile. The AMA's proposed beginner class renewed interest in their stuff, but the movement as a whole seems to be dead in the water as near as I can tell. Beon has a great kit for doing conversions on the big 5 brands, but the geometry is still a bit off...

I'm thinking KTM motor in a SuperSport frame, but I think the local shop will lynch me for heresy if I try it.

    Re: Interesting Aprilia concept

One of the major motorcycle magazines revisited this subject a few months back, and reignited my interest in the topic. On the outset, it seems like a great and moderately affordable way to build a serious racer. But on closer inspection, its not all gravy. Aside from the Aprilia motors going ka-boom all too often, even the four Japanese marquees had questionable long-term durability from the engines stressed a little differently than they were built for. But the biggest problem I remember reading about was the suspension. Because these were meant to be high-riding platforms, the forks are extremely long, with lots of travel. You can't use them for serious road-racing, and you can't just swap in a shorter set from your favorite supersport...that would destroy the 'geometry' that has already been mentioned. Instead, all the suspensions have to be custom built, even if its just a rebuild of the stock suspenders. Same story with the rear shock...designed for long, soft travel, but it needs to be turned into short, rapid travel. In the end, it just seems easier to buy someone else's already setup track bike for $4-8k.

I will say, though, the one thing I liked about the RSD Aprilia is the look of the spoke wheels on a fully-faired road race machine...

wasnt there an article in RRW or something fairly recently talking about longevity of the super-singles? cant remember but basically took away from the article that while its great to be able to create a mini roadracer from a dirt bike, the motors just weren't withstanding the stress of the constant high revs.

i think the Sands design is cool, but the German project from a while back with the SXV 550 looked way cooler.

Saw the Roland Sands bike at Miller WSBK, definitely way cool. I prefer the German concept though but either way that'd make a flippin killer track tool

Either that's a lot taller/bigger than a 125, or that guys a midget. I think the Tigcraft chasis are well designed. As long as they can keep that thing cool, it should be a great roardacer.

If it's below 50 out, I won't even try. I use the yellow start button as well and let it rev for 20-30 seconds after it starts. Any less, and it stalls. I could never start it and rev it like the guy in the video, mine would stall for sure.

I just got the new oil filter cover and O-ring in the mail on Friday and haven't had a chance to install it yet. Hoping it cools off a bit this evening so i can give it a try.
On a side note, I really feel like I got ass raped at Wagner with the O-ring I bought from them that came to $14 with tax. The one that came with my new cover from Seacoast had a $0.23 price stamped on it

ouch! it's always funny to me when i pick up a filter for the Husky for a few bucks, then pick up a filter for the Ape for like $12 or $14... they use the same freekin' filter

Wow... 75 hp, 90 kilos, and $25k? That is just insane. Too bad they're only selling less than a dozen of them.
