    LRRS auto bump

    Here's the skinny.....

The following will most likely be the rule going forward.
Any Amateur rider whose best lap time is at or better than the 110% rule in a minimum of 5 races over a minimum of two race events during the season will be asked to advance to Expert (assuming they meet the other requirements for advancement - safety, attitude, experience etc.)
A rider can elect to move to Expert the following race event or remain an amateur for the rest of the race season but will automatically start the next season as an Expert.

    The logic.
The criteria for advancement is performance based & not how many points a person accumulates. (there is a relationship but it is indirect). Advancing riders too early can frustrate a good racer while, leaving the fastest racers in Amateur (past season end) doesn't allow the rest of the Amateurs opportunities to place in the top spots.
Looking at the past season's expert best lap times for all racers. A majority of classes will have an amateur that runs around the 110% of class record lap time finishing in the lower 1/3 of places - a great starting point for new Experts.

Almost a dozen amateurs fit into the above advancement category today and will/have been asked to move to expert. The 2014 rules while not as explicit as above does allow LRRS to advance riders based on Rule 5.6.1 Administrative advancement.

    Opinions/comments?

ps. I am in contact with CCS to figure out - if a LRRS racers attends other CCS events and CCS feels a rider should advance to Expert but do not meet LRRS criteria- how we handle that.

pretty sure this was specifically about me. because of my CCS entries, they bumped me to Expert. But my LRRS lap times werent near the 110% lap time yet.

Looks good to me, and I also approve the idea of including ULSB times as well as that nukes my one of my critiques of the 2014 rule book.

Not that I'm in any rush to bump to expert, but I like that ultra lightweight bikes got their own category! A .23 seems much more within my reach in the next few years than a .21...

    Wow, whoa, hey now!

I like the above written proposed rule. I think it's good to clean up the amateur ranks and encourage/force racers that are skilled enough to move up. I found it helpful as both a novice and amateur to have a goal to reach before advancing and this addresses that.

I'm wholeheartedly in favor of this system.
Was it always 110%? For some reason 107 sticks in my head.
Either way, if 110 gets most riders into the average lower third of the next level's field, it makes perfect sense.

I wish more orgs would adopt something like this.

It was 107% when I bumped to EX a couple of years ago.

Roland maybe try racing without taking the slicks down to exposed cords!

    Re: LRRS auto bump

So, for example, what is the Expert auto bump time for SV's? Not all fancy worked SV's with jicksah front ends, but normal SV's.

Are there two sets of times, one for Novice to AM, then from AM to Expert?

    Yes.
26's to move up to am.
    21's for ex.
This is for LW classes, regardless of ss or not (it looks).

    Re: LRRS auto bump

Hey, I retired being faster than Pete. Therefore, I'm still faster than Pete. And if he was in 2nd place for the year, logically that means I was first since there was only one ranking available that was faster than him.

So there you have it. I am the 2014 ULSS Expert Class Champion.

I believe it's a best time for am, and according to post one, you must hit the mark at least 5 times over 2 or more rounds, and not be an asshole. Edit: for expert.
