Bam!
Unless he's retiring... I would highly doubt that he has announced walking away from Yamaha without his next move already in place.

Disgusted with the team and bikes he's given, or reading the writing on the wall?
Good - I'm happy to see a rider making decisions for himself rather than flapping in the wind of the three factories with all the control.
Would be awesome is suzuki joined with a competitive bike and Spies riding it.

Oooohhh......prediction time!
I'll go first:
Lorenzo - we know he stays put whyere he is
Rossi - to Factory Yamaha - with Marlboro sponsorship
Crutchlow and Bradley Smith on the Tech 3 Yamahas
Dovi to the factory Ducati with Hayden
Spies - on a factory Suzuki as the sole rider - with Schwantz involved somehow

You think Rossi and Lorenzo will be on the same team? I thought that was part of the reason Rossi left. Did not like Lorenzo.
GSXR750 GS650 Street Tracker
Not necessarily the same "team". Rumor has it Rossi will have his own program on the second factory Yamaha. It will be fun to see how this plays out.
I've said it before: Ducati should pull out of MotoGP and put their riders on in WSBK on the new Penigale.
WSBK is MUCH better racing than MotoGP

I dont believe that marlboro will move. they have an established brand with ducati and they are not able to put there name on anything due to european tobacco laws so that barcode that they have established with ducati is there only form of representation. I cant see them going anywhere
I also still dont believe that Rossi will necessarily leave Ducati, he has been in talks with the Audi executives and is rumored to be happier than before with what he;s heard
And for my third and final edit...Spies only said that he's leaving FACTORY Yamaha, I wouldnt be surprised if he ended back on Tech 3

I am a huge Spies fan, but this isn't Ben's call.
This is Yamaha giving Ben an ultimatum... tell your fans and the press you have decided to leave, or we can do it for you.
He could run strong in WSBK, and get the swagger back he once had.
Like Trackday Guru said... racing is better in WSBK anyway.
+1 for Spies going to WSBK, and +9000 for WSBK being much better racing. I dont even watch GP anymore.

Moto GP sucks.

May be its a case of jumping before being pushed, in either case change would do Spies good.
Besides there is much better racing in WSBK, Moto2
May be the return of Rossi to Yamaha would spark MotoGP's waning popularity

I am sure Lorenzo would love the opportunity to have a real shot at #46 on an equal machine.

who knows, but he's doing a good job keeping us guessing

IMO, since Spies ONLY did WSBK as an avenue to MotoGP (Remember, MotoGP teams weren't interested in giving him what he asked for in contract negotiations because the common thought process of the teams was that he hadn't done anything "significant"), and once he wiped the tarmac with the enitre field and won the WSBK championship in that first year, THEN Yamaha gave him the ride.
So the implication that WSBK is where he is "meant to be", to me anyway, doesn't jive.
And does anyone REALLY think he is coming back to AMA????
We KNOW Suzuki has built, and has been actively testing a MotoGP bike for their return to the series, supposedly in 2014, but who's to say they haven't moved up the return date to sign Spies. Suzuki loves Japanese riders.....but they also have a sucessful history with American GP riders (Schwantz, Russell, KRJR, Hopkins).
Coincidence??
