    Body Armor Questions

Looking to upgrade. Pretty sure I am going with Impact Armor http://impactarmor.homestead.com/buyonline.html. Custom fit front and back for under $300.

Also looking at Bohn, Knox and T-pro. I need to let my cheap Teknic back protector retire.

What do you wear? Would you reccomend it? Why?

I've already posted quite a bit about the T-Pro Forcefield stuff. Fergunson saw mine this year and bought some right away. JRO's got some too. It's the booooomb yo.

    Re: Body Armor Questions

Crash tested my ImpactArmor more than once. Works great. No torso injuries so far *knocks on wood*

If I had to replace it with something different, I'd probably give the Forcefield stuff a try.

    Re: Body Armor Questions

I think the biggest benefit of Impact Armor is the ability to fit a chest and back protector in a space that formerly held just a back protector.

In other words, both pieces together are about the thickness of the standard back protector.

Naturally, this does mean you have somewhat less protection in back, but it was a worthwhile tradeoff in my opinion.

Impact Armor was giving discounts to TTD customers before... not sure if they are still doing it but it can't hurt to mention us and ask?

The only issue I had with your Forcefield stuff i tried was the chest protector may have been too big because it got in the way of my breathing...

Other than that it is on the list. But for the same amount of money I could get the custom Impact stuff...

I Have also heard good things about the Knox contour...

    Thanks Tony, I will ask.

I still want to hear if anyone likes the Knox or Bohn stuff.

indeed. stuff definitely absorbs more than my impact armor ever would. impact armor is good. this stuff is simply better. if it's constricting your breathing one of the following things needs to be done:
    1. get the right size
    2. get leathers that fit properly when you're wearing proper gear
    3. lose weight and quit yer bitching

    Most likely 1 and 3.

As I have said here before, Impact Armor saved my life in the Turn 3 incident a couple years ago. When back first into the tire while as the bike slammed into my chest. Not a broken bone to be had.

dainese back space 3 back protector saved my spine from being crushed, it was a pain in the ass to get (and still are)and i know why. the alpinestars bionic is comparable but bulkier.

everyone should have a impact armor chest protector, and Jamie didnt you just get it that weekend...

Hmm, I crashed in T3 the first day I had my Impact Armor too. I rolled around through the rocks in 6 a couple times and didnt even have a bruise where the armor was. Every where else hurt like hell the next day. Never saw the forcefield stuff, but I trust Alex and Fergy know their shit. Im sure its excellentness as well. Might even have to take a look at it for myself!

Just curious, how thin is the Forcefield stuff and how would a back and chest protector compare to the IA?

    Re: Body Armor Questions

I don't have any experience with the forcefield armor under a 1 piece suit but as for comfort on the street (2 piece leathers) even when its hot I've found it comfortable. I do not wear the back protector near as much as the chest protector but I can say with all its perforations it doesn't feel like your riding around wrapped in flop sweat all day. Haven't tested its true durability yet but I'll take others words for its wear. Put the stuff over your gerbings and its like a 3 some

    Re: Body Armor Questions

Jen and I both fit our Forcefield armour into our leathers with no issues. The only person I know of that had fitting issues was Chris Watt, who can barely squeeze a back protector into his uber-tight leathers (and it's a very thing back protector at that!).

Does anyone have experience with the Fieldsheer Armadillo? It looks pretty good at 1/3 the price of the others...

I trust nothing Fieldsheer on the track,

For the street a 1 use type of thing should be ok

Hey guys, sorry to revive an old thread, but I just came across this thread and it's giving me a slight cause for concern. Enough that I registered for this forum to ask.

I want to get *the best* regardless of price and regardless of "fit," because I'll be getting a new suit which will fit whatever I order. Is the Forcefield stuff really better than Impact Armor? I know Impact Armor will have better coverage (custom), but I want it to have great protection as well and the Forcefield stuff isn't exactly a slouch in the coverage area.

Please advise before I order. I made the assumption that racers choose to use Impact Armor because it's the best protection and I hope how well they fit into a suit wouldn't weight in the decision?

    Re: Body Armor Questions

I asked the same question on WERA a couple weeks ago last week. The owner of Impact Safety Armor chimed in with some very compelling responses

Sorry, can't hyperlink right now but here's the thread link:

    http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php?t=294803

I will continue to use my Bohn back protector but will be putting the $$ toward the IA chest protector.

    Re: Body Armor Questions

What I meant by the comment I made earlier ("If I had to replace it with something different, I'd probably give the Forcefield stuff a try") is that the Forcefield stuff is the first place I'd go if I were FORCED to give up my Impact Armor.

So long as Impact Armor is still in business, it's going to be awfully tough to get me to go anywhere else. There's a ton of GREAT stuff on on the market, but IMO, Impact Armor has em all beat for fit & protection.

    Good info Bergs.

Another vote for Impact Safe-T btw. Comfortable and crash tested.

My comment on fit was directed towards those with existing leathers and a "thick" back protector. Meaning they could get the IA chest and back and not have to buy new leathers.

I suppose there is stuff out there that would protect you better than IA, but there's a limit as to how bulky something can be and still afford you the maximum movement required to hustle a sportbike around a racetrack.
