Bridgehampton

    Bridgehampton

For those of you that don’t remember or weren’t around when times were really good and we raced one of the greatest tracks that ever existed.
    Bridgehampton !!!!!!
Where else did you have to take a brick or board with you to the shower to stand on. And yes it was unisex. And yes there was a occasional motorcycle stuffed in there
Where else were there hundreds of electric cords blazing trails over miles of dirt paddock.
Where else did we ever have belly dancers on Saturday night and free beer supplied by a local brewery.
Where else did the racers show up with surf boards strapped to the top of their vans.
Where else did everyone go the beach on Sunday mornings or to Sag Harbor for breakfast.
Where else did we have clam bakes and bbq’s on the beach at night or enjoy steaks cooked over an open fire on an old rusty chainlink fence. And go skinny dipping.
Where else did you learn to go really fast and almost lose your lunch when you went under the bridge and started down that g’d damn turn one.
And yes we got in a full schedule of racing every weekend…….
The track property was a hole in the sand. The facilities were really primitive and it was impossible to get there but you know if it were to resurface today we would all flock back there because it was such a wonderful experience. Whine away about the racetracks of today but you will never experience anything as great as Bridgehampton.
Feel free to add your experiences……

I really wish we could go there still, never got a chance to ride it.

Johnny, you really ought to set up a sticky here, and put all of your stuff in it. Any other "Old schoolers" can put stuff there too. I enjoy the living hell out of those old photos.

    Re: Bridgehampton

You'll have to talk to management about the stickies.
Half the fun of Bridgehampton was getting there. Some of us coming from the north would usually meet in New London, CT for the 9:00 ferry to Orient Point. Once on Long Island there was the mad dash to Greenport to get on the North Shelter Island ferry, another mad dash across Shelter Island to the South ferry, then the home stretch. On the way home, we'd have a big cookout on the staging tarmac for the last ferry back to New London.
Not all the classes run at Loudon were run at Bridgehampton due to the strict noise regulations. On Sunday practice didn't start until 1:00 and the first race was at 3:00. Plenty of time to get wasted Saturday night, recover and race on Sunday.

How about an "Old School" section in the Forums?
