Waiiit whaaaaat??
replacement frame or current one made straight?
Shoulda gone with gold.
It was an option actually. He had a gold paint and candy fleck combo that would have been opulent while matching the hubs perfectly. I decided not to 'over bling' things by going with the white 'vein' with a clear for extra durability instead.
So yes, this is the same formally twisted and spraybombed mess I started with. Now it's straight and cleaned up nicely.
Thank you for not showing us your white vein.
Bring back the malemal toe.
Splendid. Do I have to raise my standard of appearance to retain tenancy?
No, but at my current rate of build/rebuild/repair I'm going to have to raise the rent to afford being able to actually play... :P
@ post 77 I was going to ask "how much...?"
but I know what the answer is, and I'd much rather just observe the progress and make zany sound-effect like comments
RRRRRRing ding ding ding!!!!
Frame straightening + powdercoat is cheaper than buying a new frame, if Yamaha still offered them that is.
Cha chiiiiiiing!! (Ding ding ding)
This is as far as I got this weekend. I really should replace all the swingarm / linkage bearings and seals, but I don't have a press yet and what a PITA. I'll be ordering a couple seals that absolutely need to be swapped and have just cleaned up and repacked the existing bearings. I also spotted a couple spots where washers were missing so those will be on order as well. I did go 'works' style on the swingarm, aka I took a scotchbrite pad to the legs and left the castings alone.
In the mean time I'm working on top end setup, particularly which head I should run and how tight the squish should be. I've already been told by one tuner that I'm going to scatter the transmission all over the track so I've got that going for me!
Adam - I've now heard from one other person that I should raise the exhaust, suggestion was via a second base gasket, so I'm leaning that way more now.
AHHHHHH!!!!!!
IT'S COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got back from a quickie dyno. The WR is far from dead. Pull FAR better than I hoped for. Only surprise (other than the final torque/hp) was it's peaking at just over 8k RPM, not 9k like I initially guestimated so I'll have to adjust my gearing to match. I also need to dial in the carb for small throttle operation, wasn't happy there and I can't tell if it's a lean or rich issue.
how many hp???
I think my '94 was ~43 from the factory...but you have the 265 motor
I'm not telling. All I'll say is I have plenty of HPs and I was not planning on that good a torque number.
I want pictures.

Here is as much as I'll reveal for now...
I'll get pics later, if my clamps arrive tomorrow I'll be ripping the front end off so it'll be a bit before it looks finished again.
Whoops! That wasn't intentional. Switched it to public like it should have been.
viewable now!
Progress report!
Ok, lack of progress report... still haven't put the retuned top end back on, but I have at least sourced a steering stem and assembled the lower clamp. Now I just need to figure out steering stops.

My original theory was a couple posts positioned in the gap between the bike's steering stop welds and the clamp's raised sections would be easy to implement. Unfortunately the aluminum isn't super thick there plus I'd be drilling VERY close to the fender mount bosses. No room to nut from the bottom for strength. Plan B: I'm thinking a couple 'L's cut out of aluminum, bolted on top of the existing steering stops will do the trick without rendering the clamps permanently antique fitting only. Plenty of meat to drill into and tap without getting near anything critical.
