Re: Bring out your dead!
ONE YEAR BUMP
You still interested in the motor?
You know one that I have? that is actually made for a 1990 year bike and not a 1994 year bike as I was told? Ugh #craigslist
I realized that having too many spares is just clutter for me. I would rather have one motor that I maintain and keep rebuilding rather than a second motor that collects dust for years. I move almost once a year as part of a buy-and-hold real estate wealth building plan so I like to keep it simple. Tools, maybe a tote’s worth of spares, a gear bag, a bike, a truck, surfboard and live in a studio or rent a room. Done son.

Yes, I want. Having too much fun with the antique to stop now.

Re: Bring out your dead!
okie dokie
on Tuesday I will start taking apart case covers with pictures and take a video of the crank free play...huned bucks + s&h
What else to inspect? besides:
-cracks on the outside of the cases
-freeplay on the crank
-pics of inner bits with the side covers off
also all you boss motor builders out there - what is the cheapest way to mail a bottom end?
I was thinking box (bolt?) it into a milk crate and wrap that in cardboard and tons of packing tape...biggest issue here will be the weight...I will stop at USPS, fedex, ups, etc. and ask them what all my shipping options are...worst case scenario I separate as much as I can and ship in parts, but I would rather not split the cases so Kurlon meister can fiddle in there without me breaking anything

Re: Bring out your dead!
Shipping Instructions | CT Racing ? I've never shipped a full motor, no idea on costs.
Shipping an XR650L Engine Cost and Method | Adventure Rider has a similar suggestion, Greyhound / Fastenal may be cheaper if close to you?

Re: Bring out your dead!
Dang they’re showing somewhere between 100 and $150 for shipping ...let me shop around!
Edit 1: So you have a greyhound station near you?
Quickie estimate still showed $106-$113
I may need to get the actual weight and dimensions, then play around with the size and weight calculator to get the best price
Edit 2: CT racing and Santa Fe springs is maybe 30 minutes from me...maybe I can ask them if they have a commercial account for better shipping prices
Edit 3: I just called CT racing and he said the Rubbermaid tote with cardboard and UPS was the best option :hellyeah:
Let me find the final weight and I can get a total with shipping
