The black and gold, which appear nowhere else on the bike will really highlight the faded purple and blue spray bomb jobs.

That sounds like a threat. You're using protection, right? Wouldn't want everyone near you and your machine to become infected.

front number plate came out bitchen...why not get new side plastics to match and a new seat cover? too expensive?

I have the same seat wear...street leather pants rubbed off onto the seat...I got a new gripper cover; just need to pull off the old cover and staple gun the new one in place

    Re: Bring out your dead!

I got this set CHEAP off eBay and like that they've actually got graphics on them compared to my other two sets, a dirty but not banged up white site and a 'blue' set that I still haven't determined the original color on as I dig away more layers of spray bomb. These also match the 'motif' of the bike. If I want new graphics I'll have to send out a set of plastics as no-one has templates any more for this antique. Not to mention, finding actual new plastic is getting hard short of ordering direct from Yamaha.

Unfortunately the number plate won't be staying, that fender and plate won't mount up to 09 clamps, but I'll have the replacement printed in the same style. Some day I'll recover the seat, it's just a job I HATE doing. Also, finding one I like the looks of is a PITA.

And yes Smutty, I'm an expert, asked for and got the bump after last year.

    Re: Bring out your dead!

So, not racing at Rd 2, but I WILL be bringing this impressive work in progress with me. If anyone's got a good setup for drilling nuts (Insert every inappropriate comment you can come up with, HERE) I've got to start working on safety wiring it, maybe cut up a gas can to start banging out a belly pan, etc.

    looks sick!

what did you do for front suspension? I see FC stickers - was that valved/sprung for you?

    Re: Bring out your dead!

Suspension hasn't been touched since I had FC rebuild/respring it a few years back at Stimilon. That front end is actually getting tossed as part of the build, I've got a fresh set of 2009 CRF450R forks to go in their place after the chassis gets measured and I know what offset to spec for the clamps. Order of operations is:

    - Geometry.
    - Functionality (working sumo brake setup, first pass will be stock caliper with an oversized rotor + TRX450 brake master, bearing swaps/rebuilds as needed, etc).
    - Dial it in from there, suspension tweaking/rebuilding if needed, etc.

So, are you hinting that you want a set of 1992 forks for one of your projects?

Chris - I still remember that pesky KTM of yours in ULSB... had some fun swapping spots with you in a race or two. I dunno if the WReck will be able to give you an honest fight or not but I'm game to find out.

    Re: Bring out your dead!

nope! I had FC spring/valve the '94 yz250 forks for me...going to match the rear and call it a day!

I try not to ride newer suspended bikes anymore...they are so rad that they remind me how much I'm missing...and that starts to unnecessarily open the wallet...ignorance is bliss/cheap!

    Re: Bring out your dead!

So, an update was requested, so an update you all shall have!

As you saw, I have wheels bolted up with freshy fresh BT003RS tires. This allowed me to drag the bike up to NHMS this weekend so Mr. Kates could measure it and determine what will be required to get the geometry right. His first question to me after measuring it was "Did it get hit by a freight train?" It won the award for most twisted frame he's measured that was still rolling. Anything worse was delivered by wrecker. 2.5 plus degrees of twist in the steering stem area, bad enough that you can see it looking at the bike head on, and I've been riding it for 5 years like that never noticing anything was off. The bike has been stripped down to a bare roller and motor to get a high heat neck and back massage from Computrack. Once it's actually straight then we'll run the numbers and figure out what offset clamps will be proper.

In the mean time I got a chance to mock up the driveline and found that the newer generation wheels run the rear sprocket closer to the center than the old stuff, by about 3mm. With a 160 rear tire and a fat o-ring chain it fouled the rear tire badly (didn't want to roll) and didn't want to run in the rear chain guide. I have since gotten a couple custom offset rear sprockets to put the chain back in line with the front. That extra 3.5mm of movement to the left combined with a narrower chain (likely non o-ring) and the 150 rear tire that's on there now should give me more than enough chain clearance. I don't think I'll even need a traditional sumo upper chain guide to deflect it around the tire.

That leaves the following tasks to be done before I can race the WReck:
    - Paint the frame after Computrack Vulcan nerve pinches it
    - New chain
    - Belly pan
    - RSW Racing fork clamps to my specs
    - Misc hardware for clamps and 09 forks to complete bolt up
    - Adapt old fender and number plate to new front end
    - Fork guards
    - Brakes - (rotor, caliper adapter, brake line, beefier master)
    - Safety wire

No idea if I can pull this all off before the Classic. That's my ultimate goal but the timing just isn't looking good.
