So I'll be racing next month. I can always camp but after seeing some of the water up there and hearing about the late night debauchery I'm not so sure a tent would be the best way to do things. So, here is the situation:
I have a small enclosed trailer that used to be a camper. It can fit in my EX. It has a couple crank out screened windows. I can toss in a board on hinges and a chains that can fold down as a bunk. It's already wired for electricity. It's very small, but I already own it and would just need to put in a new floor, do some general handyman type crap, etc etc.
Would it be worthwhile? Does having a roof over your head and not being on the ground matter that much?
I also have the opportunity to get a Vokswagon Bus camper for short money. I'd have to trailer the bike or put it in the Bus but I'm sure I could figure something out.
Opinions/recommendations?

when it gets cold, you can put a space heater in a trailer... doesn't work too well when you put one in a tent.
plus you don't have to unroll, steak down and pop up a trailer just to take it back down & cram it back into a bag that's way too small for the fuckin thing a couple days later.
I say if it's not too much work, sleep in the trailer. Alot of guys do that at the track.

eh .. i slept in a tent in April (cold as fuck), then slept again in may when noah came floating by
june was perfect and by far the best sleep I got out of the 3 weekends
if I had a trailor i'd probably sleep in that ... but I don't ... so the tent it is.

Cool. Trailer is what I figured would be the best. That VW Bus would be hip and all but would be another vehicle to insure, maintain, etc.

Sure it does! You just hafta let the tent 'pre-heat' for an hour or 4.Originally posted by OreoGaborio

I sleep in a tent, but I'm off the ground on my cot.
If I were you Clayton, I'd just go up and tent the next couple of race weekends and see what you think. That'll give you a good idea as to whether it's worth the work on the trailer (although that sounds pretty cool!).

take the EX out of the trailer, forget the fold down bed with chains, just drop an air matress on the floor.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Will you throw me some of your leftover beeve?Originally posted by hessogood

Walmart has a folding cot ( around $20.00 with a mattress), I used one last weekend and it sure beats sleeping on the floor. Try the tent and see how it works out for ya, and as far as the leftover beeve, Jay never has any leftovers cause he eats what's put in front of him![]()

If you have the trailer, use it!!! The weather is always changing at Loudon and KNOWING you will go to bed dry and wake up dry is worth it. I always sleep in my trailer at the track, I've even used it on a camping trip. I also picked up a folding cot as well, it's better than sleeping on a air mattress on the floor... especially when it's cold out and your heater is on, you don't get much heat being on the floor. As for the floor, I just picked up a carpet from the Depo and toss that down to cover the wood floor.![]()

trailers are great for the cold or wet weather
tents are great for the warmer weather
or you could always do what the sissy ass faggets do --- get a room at the red roof!!
tent or trailer bro, a little roughing it ain't gonna hurt ya, besides the grass in the infield is all pretty soft, especially after 2,10 beers
I've camped out in a tent in 15 below weather. I'm not worried about being able to sleep or be comfortable.
I am looking for the best way to maximize my race experience. So far having a trailer to crash in seems like the best way and cheapest way to keep the worries of the weekend limited to not passing fellow PTwin racers too often![]()
Space heater is something I never thought of, good idea guys! Perhaps I'll use the spare 8000btu air conditioner as well! (seriously)

I find a electric blanket to be a warmer, and safer, alternative to a Space Heater.
Boston --> San Diego
Don't go crazy with a heater. A Honeywell $30 job from Wal-Mart will do the trick.Originally posted by TheIglu

Alot of the new space heaters have an automatic shutoff if the thing tips over on its side. As long as you make sure it's stable you should be good to go.Originally posted by a13x

The ac unit is awesome if you have electric hook up or a generator.
The microwave comes in handy for quick foods
the little heater next to the microwave is also electric $30 jobbie from wallymart. heats the whole trailer no problem 6.5 x 12 plus the v nose
The beds are 6ft steel framed vinyl banquet tables from BJ's with a mattress and eggcrate pad. they fold up and strap to the wall out of the way in transport. Plus there is room for all your gear underneath.
If its pouring down rain (which happens alot at the track) we can just set up one of the tables and pull some chairs around it and have a dry place to hang out , eat, play cards, drink, etc.........
Indoor out door carpet for the floor once the bikes come out
There is NO question as to wether to sleep in a ten or not, if you have a trailer use it..................

I was just talking to Mark last race weekend about doing the same with the ac in the door with mine. Looks real good, I like the placement of the microwave too.

Just dont buy a VW bus. Keeping those running is a full-time job in itself.
I may just do that.Originally posted by theothersean

Looks like one of those would be a wise investment. Until then, I think I'll get my mini-trailer somewhat setup before the next race weekend.
Don't worry Chris, I won't buy a Bus. They hold their value worth shit!

I'm going to convert the door to a ramp style. Paint the wood inside, add in a cooling fan, lights, etc, should be all set to go!
It does look like it'll fit the EX in there quite nicely. If no, no big deal, that's why I have a truck bed!

What's not awesome is me going down to the garage last night to discover the racebike standing over a puddle of gas. Turns out the tank had a patch in it that let go. Add that to the list of things to do before the end of July.
