    CBR600 NHMS gearing

I want to change the gearing on my bike. I've been running the stock 16/42 since getting the bike last year. In searches I see people are running 15/48 but that's on gixxers. I assume it can't be that much different on a cbr but it just seems really big in the back. Anyone with an 07+ CBR600RR running that? or if different what do you run? comments/suggestions from those with other bikes are welcome of course.

    Re: CBR600 NHMS gearing

Compare the final drive on the CBR to the GSXR. Then gear the bike according to the final drive difference. I know there is a website out there that has a calculator for this...

    Re: CBR600 NHMS gearing

umm doesn't final drive=chain and sprockets? and primary drive would the tranny gear ratios, correct?

this the site? its pretty cool http://gearingcommander.com/
says top speed for an 06-10 GSXR600 with a 190/55 tire and 15/48 is 132.8mph and same set up on my bike, 07-08 CBR600RR would be 124.1mph that's a big difference. the ZX6R 132.9mph. wow the R6 comes out to 142.7mph with 15/48
If I went 15/45 that would get me 132.4mph
not saying I'd hit any of them cause I don't think I'm that fast out of 12 and into 1.

Yeah you found what I was talking about lol. Just compare the top speeds to get a starting point.

Not sure what years you are talking about but my stock rear is 40 and I know 2000r6 are 48 and I would not gear it to hit less than 135 imho.

135?! But then he might spin it up in the rain? He should gear it for ludicrous speed.

I only looked at the newest generations of them all. they did list 07-10 ZX6R together which is kind of dumb cause 09 is completely different from 08.

15/46 is the best gearing I believe. My 06 was running that, I believe that is what Nate runs on his 03, I know 07 is a bit different but stock gearing was the same 16/43 I believe

only thing that matters is the gearing, so if the final ratio is the same why cant they list it as one category?

and there is no magic number, you have to try it on your own and see what works for you
I'm not 100% sure on this but the FAST guys set up their bike to redline in 5th on the front straight, that way you dont have to spin the engine to the moon and do a lot of shifting, and don't forget to account for the rear tire size

and even if you find somebody fast that runs same bike and tires, that gearing might not work for you because the difference in speed(lap times), the gearing I have on my bike is probably good for an expert but I run a gear lower almost everywhere(because I'm slowww)

The internal tranny gears have different part numbers so I assumed they are different ratios which would make some of the numbers change. if they're all the same then yeah grouping them together is fine.

I ran 15/49 on 2nd gen R6, not that that helps you that much. You might want to chat with Steve Giacamaro if he's around next race weekend. He's the only fast guy I know running a new gen Honda.

Where are your shift points and stuff right now?

he was running the 1000 last weekend so that doesn't help any. not sure if he has a 600 or not but didn't last round.

I think I'm in second for the whole track except the straight. If I got a good drive out of T2 I'd grab a shift then back down to 2 into T3. Very rarely I would grab a shift before T5 and back down again into the bowl. I wanna say up 2 gears on the straight and back down into T1 but I'm not positive. but I know this is all gonna be different the next round cause I just did a couple track days at another track and worked on a bunch of stuff so I should see vast improvement.

Brett, take your stock gearing and drop 1 tooth on the front and go up 2 teeth on the rear... start there and see if you need to add another tooth on the rear. e.g. my stock r6 gearing was 16/45... I changed it for last round to 15/47... . Now I can only hit about 135 on the straight instead of my usual 140+

    Re: CBR600 NHMS gearing

when i first started doin trackdays on my zx6r i was just +2 on the rear sprocket and found that i wasnt getting good drive out of turn 6, so i would try to exit t6 in 2nd gear then click up to third before 7, i then added a -1 to the front sprocket and i can just hold 3rd gear thru 6 - 9 bouncing off the rev limiter a couple of times before i enter 9, i found it to be much faster that way

My '03 600RR came with -1 +2 set up... it's worked out pretty well for me so far.
