It was funnier to watch Dan Murphy's daughter going around the track doing the chicken dance non-stop.

Yeah, maybe just make Novice a "provisional" AM type of thing and require a bump after 6 races. That way no one hangs out there. There should be some incentive to bump to EX, but I don't know what that would be... Perhaps better trophies? or eliminate AM contingency, but pay back deeper into the expert field. Mmmm... I like that idea.

I know you work on your shit, Jay, I was just bustin' You'd be suprised how many experts on big bikes practice in the 19s. I'll never understand why... I often end up fifth fastest overall in Blue practice on my 125!!??

The big bikes are BIG bikes and are a lot of work to muscle around--they don't want to get worn out and/or burn up bike/tire/gas for a few lousy laps in which a clean lap isn't really possible anyway.

A lot use morning practice as a limbering up, stretching out in the morning exercise--not a run at race pace and try to improve mentality.

That's exactly what I don't understand!!! To me, that's a waste of time. If you're not trying to improve, you're literally wasting tires and parts.

4-5 laps doing at warm up pace isn't going to wear anything out but serves AS the warm up.

I know myself and others have often used races AS practice (ie--balls to wall, but trying to improve) because in a race situation, blood pumping, and 8 clear track laps a lot more can be accomplished.

Don't forget, guys on the bigger bikes don't have 1, maybe 2 classes to be competitive in. Guys on 600s can pick and choose among 10 different classes and which they want to (or have a chance) at being truly competitive in and which they want to utilize as open track sessions to catch the carrot.

if the cherrypickers in Am were forced to move to Ex, the cherrypickers in Nov could move to Am + know they could compete but still be able to work on + learn things!

+ there really isn't much incentive to move up

ok, lets raise the entry fees for NV/Am's and see how fast they bump up.

the AM contingency is only available if ya podium finish (or there abouts) + the Am cherrypickers have that pretty much covered

I get plenty of practice time--- I run 3 bikes, one in each group

If you're still in AM, obviously you still need more practice.

What about my other idea--raise the entree fees for non experts.

yes this is true! + I could've bumped up last year too, BUT....
    -no incentive to move up
-I run top 3 in most LW classes at 1:24's + Am top 3 run 1:20-1:21's so I need to drop 3 more seconds to compete
-I'm learning to ride a new bike this year
-I already had yellow plates when I started in mid '04
    -I crash a lot
    -I need more wins

Locusts! There was a fire! A horrible flood! An old friend came in from out of town! All good points.

I'm right there with you on the crashing thing... unfortunately.

Chad, if you don't move up soon, how will you race against Pete? Pete, you're moving up soon, right?

And I figured it out - who cares that I have only 7 races and a .2something index - I'm moving up anyway. How, you ask? Well, the rest of CCS doesn't have a NV class, so if I race at VIR and Summit Point, guess I will have to wear yellow plates... and get beat even more! I need more motor for VIR!

In 2004, memorial day weekend, we literally had locusts at Summit Point. It was like a plague, they were EVERYWHERE.

The mile long straight became painful as these things smashed into you neck and such. Tearoff's became a necessity and many people ran out.

It must have been hell on those Egyptian chariot drivers, too.

    The horror!

Anyone know what the newbie amateurs tend to run at VIR during a race weekend? I don't know if that means the full course or what, either.

The only races at VIR are run on the north course. They do track days on the full, south, and patriot courses.

Fresh newb's typically run high in the 40 (ie-48-49).

    Fast AMs run high 30's to low 40's (i.e. - 38-42)

Winning AMs run mid to high 30's (ie- 36-37)

ooorrrrr.... LRRS could STOP trying to be cool/different and actually run like CCS. AM and EX.. thats it. period.

im eligable for advancement... but im not driving all the way up there to only be able to enter 1 race on Sunday. if they would spread out theraces a little more, and actually give me some sort of choice of what i wanted to race then i would move up in a heartbeat.

im capable of 21s consistant 22s which usually puts me in the top 5 or so in AM (depending on class) i have things to work on, time to find, and suspension to buy. and a job that gives me saturdays off

it almost seems like they run MOST of the AM/EX races on Sat so they can go home, while MOST of the NV have to stay until the end of the day on Sun

ULSB has 10 or so TOTAL in both Am and Ex for CCS around the country. LRRS has around 45-50... There's a reason there are 3 class groups.
