Yes, the captains will also need to wear helmets since they will be on the live track, and the captain often tends tot he fallen rider, which is on the track or in the crash zone.
what about suzy mcflaggertons like me, who usually just push or do clean up and sweeping?

My understanding is that you will not need a helmet. Just the ones playing in traffic...

This chick can't pick up a bike but is an RN and would LOVE to attend to the fallen riders, or volunteer in first aid. Who can I talk to about the first aid? And I'm assuming I'll just ask to be able to tend to the riders instead of flagging? I'll flag too but I like doing the whole medical emergency part...

The medical is taken care of by the ambulance crew, they are staffed completely separately from us. In the corner you can certainly volunteer and help out in any way that you can, but the serious stuff is pretty much left to the ambulance and infirmary crew.

If you bring a first aid kit then you might get to put on a few band aids or very minor stuff for the riders that get scrapes but don't want to take a ride on the bus.

Not during race weekends. But if you cornerwork at a Track Day (much easier job) you get paid in track day gift certificates which can at least lead towards CHEAPER track time

    Re: Corner working Questions

I'd like to see a statistic of how many accident happen that involve a CW being hit by traffic each event or season.

Honestly, if I am running around a live track to pick up a bike or a rider and I have to wear a full faced helmet or something similar, I will probably not see the bike coming that hits me instead of being able to get out of the way!

I think one of the biggest problems is my bright yellow rain coat and rain paints.

    Re: Corner working Questions

Pay attention here. Bicycle helmets WILL NOT SUFFICE. They were specifically called out as NOT ACCEPTABLE. If you step on a HOT track, you will need headgear. At this point, cornerworkers WILL have to pay for camping, but we're working on that. We are developing a signup process to cornerwork. The track will be putting a ceiling on how many PAID positions we will have each weekend. We are negotiating with the track just what that number will be. More to come...

Will the hockey helmet need to have a bird cage on it or am I good with just the lid?

and I can't wait to get up there and do this.

    Boo for paying for camping.

Who said full faced helmet? Don't get hung up on it too much until we get the actual specs that the track is looking for and we come up with the best possible solution options.

Will not know about the cage, but i doubt that will be necessary,

Can't wait to have more workers up this year.

    Food for thought.
Be tough to give mouth to mouth with a caged helmet on if I had to.

    I hope that:

    1. You never have to give mouth to mouth.

    2. That you have a pocket mask. If you don't let me know and I will get you one.

Question. Does each corner working station have a little 1st aid kit?
