I had a nice new, custom clutch cable made for the GS in an attempt to reduce the crazy clutch pull the current mess requires. The stock cable has a forced curve at the lever end that works great if you're using bars with some rise to them, not so great if you convert to clip ons. It forces extra bends into the cable as it jams around the headlight bucket on it's way back through the frame, adding a ton of friction.
Got the new cable Saturday, went to put it on today... inner is too short by a good 1 to 2 inches, and the lever end ferrule is too wide to work in my lever. BAH. On the flip side the new cable moves much smoother and with far less effort than the old one, to the point that I can work the clutch just by pulling on the cable, no lever needed. That's how I remember GS500 clutches being, not the HD-esque workout I have now.
I hate when projects like that go wrong, and all I can do is wait till Tues to hit up the local shop to see if they have the right ends to make a new inner to my specs...

Fug it...
- Chinese Pitbike cable, longer than I need
- 200w soldering gun
- Rosin
- New cable has soldered on brass ends
- File to 'adapt' lever end of old cable to fit ASV lever
Only thing I'm missing, silver solder, good news, local HW store had some. Better news, new new cable works.
Well, in the future, you can also try this:

I got one for the SV, and it works great. Instead of the elbow dropping it down, I had to route the straight cable around the steering head and back to the left side.
Next time if you cannot obtain them locally. MotionPro has everything cable. Fast too.

you could try a bicycle shop and just get one made. i used to work at a m/c shop where we made cables...was kinda fun.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...
