    Red face dazed and ...

    Hi all,
I'm a little embarrassed to be writing this with so many pro racers in here but this girl will be starting her first rookie season at Louden next year and I'm a little confused about the procedures and what not. I sent in my license application with my certificate and I didn't have a transponder number at the time. I've got one now but haven't a clue of what I'm doing regarding processes and other structure of LRRS.
I've tried to log on at my.nhms.com but I don't seem to have an account yet. I'm probably getting way ahead of myself but not knowing kind of stresses me out.

Is there any change someone would be willing to help mentor me a little after the new year?

    Thanks so much in advance!!

    Happy Holidays!!

    -Diz

    Re: dazed and ...

It can definitely be confusing so don't be embarrassed. We were all there once.

Have you gone through a race school like Penguin yet? That's step 1. Not gonna get a license w/o going through that, doing a rookie race and registering for at least one sprint.

("so many pro racers in here".... )

Thanks, it just seens like there are very few contact points listed on the lrrs site, that's probably for the better since I have so many questions.

Yes, I did 4 track days with Penguin at Loudon and flew to Miami to take the Basic course and get my certificate.

    Re: dazed and ...

Okay, cool... Send an email to Wanda Dumas requesting a my.nhms.com account. Let her know you took Penguin at Homestead and are awaiting a licence & number.

Once you get that you should be able to log in and pre-register for whatever races you want to do once pre-reg opens up (a few weeks before the first race weekend).

Even if you did a mock race in Miami do the rookie race the first race weekend. It's free.

Any other specific questions? Most of us can probably help ya out.

    No problem.

FYI, you may still not be able to sign up online until you actually have your license (not sure if you're still required to do a mock & register for another race) but if not, you can do all that at the track in the Registration office.

One other thing is that they usually wait until the Jan license renewal deadline to do any numbering or renumbering. I believe that your my.nhms.com account is tied to your race number and may require a valid license.

Like Pete said, contact Wanda and she'll answer all of your questions.

If they are still doing the mentor program and if youre still eligible take advantage of that. Last year they put the first timers that wanted it next to us to give them a hand their first weekend.

Same here. We (ECK) "adopted" the G2 crew (Adam, Lou, David, Jay) and things went pretty smoothly.

A 2012 848 EVO which is currently in a zillion pieces in my dining room as I safety wire her and do a bunch of other fun things. termis, woodcraft rearset, armour bodies, gps, blah blah. I'm so excited!!

BTW; I might need some ducati specific safety wiring advice as I push through.

I'm not familiar with the mentoring program, sounds like it's something I really could use!

Look at the safety wiring rules... don't think you need to do that suspension linkage.

Basically, if it holds fluids or important componants that go on & off frequently, wire it. For all other things, consult the rulebook.

Thanks, I did the suspension link just because it I wanted an little extra security. Do you think that will be a problem?

From the 2012 rule book "Fork drain plugs must be taped or secured with a safety wire." - Do the Showa forks require anything special here?

Thanks in advance for all your patience!

    Re: dazed and ...

Well, the season is getting closer and I'm getting exponentially nervous or excited. Hard to tell the difference sometimes.

Couple of questions if you don't mind....

I never managed to get hooked up with a garage space to share. I'm hoping that I can weasle that somehow as the season kicks off and I start meeting people IRL. I wish I could say that I'm tiny little and don't take up much space but I seem to carry way too much stuff with me for this whole track thing. I mean just my shoe collection could fill a garage. In the meanwhile, without a space, do I need to have a generator to power warmers or is there power available? Can a garage be rented per weekend?

Got my account all setup at my.nhms.com, does anyone know where I register my transponder ID?

I'll be going to Friday practice / Penguin, I plan on using my yellow bike (848 Corse) for track only, at my current pace, which is pretty slow but not quite reverse, should I stick with my stock tires? Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!! Oh, and thanks for all this help in advance.

    Re: dazed and ...

Post up that you would like to rent garage space with someone. Garages are usually available to rent for a weekend but they are kinda spendy to do that alone, IMO.
As far as power, if you're not in a garage literally walk up to someone and offer some $$ to hook into their power or split the cost of a box if you find yourself in the middle of the infield.
Transponder number should be entered in your nhms profile somewhere though I'm not sure where as it's been a while since I've logged into that website.

EDIT: Tire choice is your call but I think you'll be just fine

    Re: dazed and ...

Post up & see who's got a garage spot... if you don't get any bites, just ask at the front gate. I'm certain one will be available, but as said above... $$$$$$$$. At least a couple hundred bucks a weekend. That's why you see 4-8 guys crammed into each one. If you decide to set up camp on the infield, electrical hook-ups are everywhere and available for short money.

I think you just write your transponder number down on your race entry when you register for your race if you can't find it on my.nhms.com

I'm sure your tires will be perfectly fine. Those tires are probably good for 1:16's on your bike (well... for a couple of laps at least )

    Re: dazed and ...

Ok, I have no idea who you are, but I'll go in with you on a garage if you can get two more people. That'll get the cost down to reasonable. Wanda will be the one to contact to arrange it. I'm similar, I pack way too much at times too, but I also try to make sure I'm covered on tools/etc. I'll try and play the voice of the experienced racer - Hah! I can help with procedures, but actual techniques / etc, well I used to race a GS500E so I don't think I'm qualified to help there.

On the tires front, you can go quite far on street tires, the others are spot on there. No point stepping up to spendy/short life slicks if your pace isn't there to make use of them. Street tires will be more forgiving about not being fully warmed before going out, better if it starts to rain, etc too.

On the power front, if you pit in the RV camping area and pay for both the camping and electrical fee at the gate (which may be waved if you register for three or more races) you'll have access to power for warmers/etc. Bring a outdoor, heavy duty extension cord to get from the fence to the access road. You'll want one for in the garages too so snag one now if you don't have one. The beefier the better, it's going to get run over, rained on, etc. Plus, warmers are not a light draw so using a thicker cord will lessen the voltage drop, allowing your warmers to heat better. A 25' unit should do the trick, I think I have a 50' in my electrical tub?

While you're gathering supplies, a boomboxy type radio is nice so you can hear the announcements when they're actually broadcasting. A scanner is handy for listening to the cornerworkers which can also clue you in to what's going on and coming up. One of these days I'll buy an Icon scanner that does FM with scanner override so I can have both in one device... some day... Another nice thing to have is a cheap 10" or 12" fan that can be aimed straight up, between races crank it up on high and set your helmet on it. A nice, dry, cool helmet is soooo nice compared to a hot and sweaty one.
