That isn't how I knew, I've seen the bikes at the shop and knew he had the R5. Was just a fun way to show it to you.

Its funny they are identical. With the angle of the two pictures, he literally could just have an R5 sticker on one side and an R6 on the other. Lol

Not so sure any 250 you can actually buy would even hang with an R5. Numbers don't add up. Non factory type 250s make 80 HP. They are lighter, but in my experience, HP/wt is not a good way to compare performance. At the end of the straight, weight doesn't matter so much. Only HP.

I mean if we are talking just Loudon... Straight isn't long enough to show that difference imo.

Ahhh, too be 20 and talented. Probably helps Scotty is his dad, too.

Sammy definitely earned that engine last year. He rode the hell out of that bike. Good thing you and I bumped when we did.

    2 strokes : HONDA RS 250R

They are still out there, and I and point you to a good source for info/parts in the north east. There's also been a bit of a resurgence in two stroke development by a few mfgs, turns out all those electronics that help dirty four strokes can do the same magic to smokers.

The other path would be to scoop up a Moto2 chassis now that they're switching base motors, it'd still have a street derived motor but it'd have more GP creds than an R5.

You do realize who you are arguing with, right? Lol

I like how you use a moto2 bike as a more viable and cost effective option over an R5. Lol

Heh, never said it'd be more cost effective. I would be curious about total ready to race weight on a CCS GP legal Moto2 build vs an R6 / R5, that's the one thing I hate about my MW machine is it's such a pig to ride in comparison to my UL machine.

But, that goes back to the point that the GP classes aren't about controlling costs, they're geared for someone who wants to pull the pin on their credit rating and go bananas. Complaining that the R5 beats up on SS and SB built SVs is silly in that context.

I have one of Grush's motors that I'll be riding in Daytona and Loudon this year and John told me he had the billet cranks in all 3 of his motors along with longer rods instead of decking the motor.

I'm curious as to how much these destroked engines cost versus how much a "regular" stroke, 600 would cost...

Primary cost adder is the crank, either spending to have one destroked or buying a billet one. Rods you'd be buying as part of a SB build to begin with so nothing new there, interesting that they're not playing with higher comp pistons?

There's always the cheapest option of "destroking" it and hoping no one calls your bluff!
Found a couple 500 and RR stickers on ebay.
Boom, project completed for $12.99 shipped.

OK stupid question. How the heck do they inspect the engine internals to make sure the bike has been neutered I mean destroked when you show up at tech?

So, for normal tech inspection, they don't. Normal tech is a safety inspection only and has nothing to do with class eligibility. After that, class legality is all on you to make sure you're actually legal until one of the following occurs:

    1) Someone protests you. They put up cash (Amount determined by level of teardown required, see the rule book. In fact, read the whole thing.) and a written complaint spelling out which specific rule(s) are in violation. Your bike is then impounded and torn down far enough to verify the detail being protested. (Or some means of marking / sealing it is done to allow you to race for the rest of the day without tinkering / removing the cheat before the tear down that evening.
On a 565 claim that should be doable just by pulling the plugs and measuring stroke, there is also a tool that can measure the bore through a plug hole. If need be they can pull the head, etc. If you're found legal, the protestor forfeits the cash to the vindicated racer, with the idea that the cash covers labor/parts to put your machine back together, one time use gaskets, etc. If illegal... the protester keeps his deposit and we enter the penalty phase of the process.

    2) You're lucky enough to win the random lottery of racers pulled after a race, you can see Johnny B waving those specific riders to tech as they pit in. This could be for a fuel test, quick airbox inspection, or it could be a case of scenario #3...

    3) The Chief Referee decides he wants to look at your bike. He can pull you and inspect at whim without any protest being filed. LRRS started doing this more this year specifically because of all the hushed talk in dark corners claiming X/Y/Z had to be cheating 'cause obvious, right? I don't recall hearing of anyone being found illegal.
