What size generator do we need?

    For the infield?

I run tire warmers, helmet drying fan, trickle charger, radio (for race calls) and a Fridge at the most during the day. (could do without the fridge I suppose).

What do you guys need power for?

    2000 watts work? Bigger? Smaller?

    Discuss.

You could do without the fridge "you suppose"? Holy shit man! Where does it end?

You could do without everything but your tire warmers.

Small battery in the bike, needs the charger.

I sweat like a pig and need the fan.

You want cold Guiness.... I need the Fridge.

After bringing a fridge to the last few events last year, I absolutely will not go without.

add in whatever appliance you want just figure that they will all run at the same time and you should be all set.

quantity over quality .... the type of stuff we need at the track does not need 'super clean' power ... just needs power. higher watt capacity = more racers with more stuff they are use to having. cold Guiness, radio, cooling fans (for bikes and racers), lights ............ back during the ice storm Home cheapO had 12,000 watt gen sets for $1200 1:10 is actually a good ratio when it comes to generators

hope this helps DOC et al.

Just look on any of these appliances you listed for a spec plate or sticker that will tell you the amps or watts it uses. If it provides amps( like it will say 2a) then multiply 120(volts) x the amps = watts. Now go count how many watts each unit is and add em up! It might also say Input Voltage- 120 V AC 60Hz 2a. Forget about the 60Hz just go for the V(volts) and A (amps). 120 x 2 = 240 watts. If it says the voltage and then the (W)watts then your all set, no arithmatic required.

Re: What size generator do we need?

    amps * voltage = watts

    1.5 * 120 = 180 watts per battery tender

    5 * 120 = 600 watts per tire warmer * 2 per bike = 1200 watts

    8 * 120 = 960 watts per air compressor

    14 * 120 = 1680 watts per a/c unit

    11 * 120 = 1320 watts per microwave oven

these are some approximate numbers to consider when choosing a generator

basically you'd be able to have two bikes with tire warmers and two battery tenders or a radio or something else small. if you wanted some other appliance to run you'd have to unplug your tire warmers to start the air compressor etc ...... etc ......
