Yeah Race 5 yesterday, LWSM (but I was back a couple waves, with the amateurs)... I was catching the slower expert EX500's at the end of the race... those bikes have NOTHING coming off the corners, I was amazed.

But yeah the faster expert ex500's are quick... I don't understand how they do that on those bikes... crazy

Some of the slow expert exs wouldnt be winning novice races. Dont judge it based on them. Follow BJ, Dana, Mark, Joe, Tom, Brendan and tell me they have nothing, youd be fucking AMAZED what they can do to them.

Fact. The fast EX guys are doing 21's/22's. AM this weekend was 27s & 28s, but we had guys doing 26s & 27s in NV. All PTwins times.

Once again, follow the fast guys. A couple times I've dragged an EX down the straight and we are side by side the whole way.

I agree..it was fun catching upto an expert ex and blowing by him out of 12...but the fastest EX experts are NUTS. They are so good at carrying speed, they fly by my in practice and I'm like holyshit he's on an EX!

Ehh, the bike was stuttering major before the fixes we made, thats the drop in laptimes. Then once we fixed it, we also made a big jump in the jet, and I didnt have a lot of confidence. I think itll be alright once I get a pipe and the proper jetting in.

ah cool, didn't one of you guys say there was a missing clamp on air boot as well? Richie, go over that whole section from motor back and make sure everything is sealed perfectly/tight.

The worst thing about those Expert EX500 guys... When they pass you in open practice. I can't hear that friggin sewing machine behind me and all of a sudden there goes BJ followed by another EX guy. Where did he come from!

Then I try to follow and see how friggin smooth they are. Very Nice!

I think the best advice I can give from that particular pass... don't count on the rider you're passing seeing you and taking corrective action.

I almost got taken out the same exact way in the same exact spot last season in a GTL. I went off roading but was able to keep the rubber side down.

I haven't wathced the vid yet cause its too flipping big, but Dan, You aren't past until you are past. A wheel, a half a bike is not enough because in roadracing we look WAY up track. You will not see a rider til they are like 3/4 of the way past.

Dirt moves are not OK because if you knock someone down in the dirt, big deal, you're going ten MPH. If you knock your buddy down at loudon they are going to get hurt. Not to be dramatic, but they could be killed. You need to take that seriously. In my 8 years racing, I've had close friends get killed by other bikes, as well as friends who survived fatal incidents. Believe me, you don't want to be on either end of that scenario.

You can ride aggressively, but you MUST be sure that you have gotten 3/4 of the way past before tip in or else go round the outside. Then it's your hide on the line.

Duly noted. That said, while I wouldn't make that same pass again, Kurlon did, by his own admission, see me before he took a left (into me, ya half asses assassin!) into me!

But on the serious note your post is on, I was really worried about it and unhappy. We had discussed “rubbin’s racin” and making aggressive passers, giving the spectators a show, etc. but when we touched it wasn’t so funny anymore. Like I told Kurlon privately, after that impact I was looking for a red or yellow flag and thinking about pitting in if I saw the yellow. Hell with the race, last thing I want to do out there is hurt a friend. (FYI, Kurlon’s take on it was “that was a pass, this is a race, fuck it and go for it, come see me after the race if you feel the need). It wasn’t until I saw he was up and gaining on me that I got my head back on racing, until then it was nothing but worry.

That’s why there’s novice, right? After all, “this is motorcycle racing, not a knitting competition, don’t you EVER back down” to steal my favorite quote ever. I guess I took that a bit too far this time.
