    What a drag

Today, since I have the day off, I decided to do a little maintanence on the M2. I wanted to get it cleaned up, fuel tank and float bowl drained and oil changed. I never really had to take off my belly pan since the drain bolt is still visible for tech, but when I took it off today, I was surprised with what I found.

For the past few weeks, I thought I was dragging my foot pegs. This was mostly happening in turns 3 and 6. I didn't so much feel it on my foot, just on the whole bike in general. When I took the belly pan off, I found that it was that that I was dragging all this time. The left side is almost worn through, and the right side is scuffing pretty good.

What can I do to fix this? I can't mount the pan any higher, it already is in hard contact with the exhaust. Can I go without the pan? I did last year for 1 race, and from what I hear it is more of a CCS requirement then a LRRS one.

a belly pan is always preffered, but buell=dry sump and tech never bothered our X1 about a belly pan.

I dragged footpeg, exhaust header and exhaust can this weekend. Of course, I need to get off the bike more so I dunno what the point of this statement was.

haha i didn't mean it in any kind of insulting way... I just think that assessing body position might be a good first step before altering things on the bike.

sorry if that came across wrong

Hopefully there will be some pictures that could help me see if I am getting off enough. I feel like I am getting off to the side, but maybe not low enough. Owens Racing Photos seemed to somehow skip me May 11th.

Ok, I think between you, me, and my friend we've enough to request a bodyposition seminar in the T1a pits Friday evening...

And no, 'bent over and grabbing my ankles' is not what I'm talking about.

    Re: What a drag

Raise the rear and front ride height equally if you have a shock that allows for that. If not, you need one.

You could also try increasing the preload on the front and rear springs as long as you aren't making it too stiff.

I said too stiff, huh, huhuhuh, huh.

Developing this bike was part of my plan for the season. Eventually, I will replace this bike, but I have a love for this bike that is beyond any explanation. This was the bike that I first learned to ride on, not even 3 years ago. This was the first motorcycle of any sort that I have ever been on. Having done product development in other industries, I enjoy taking something that shouldn't work and making it work.

    Re: What a drag

Eboos, can you shorten the mounting brackets and suck the belly pan in more?

how bad is it dragging? if it is not standing you or the bike up let it hit. My buell used to drag the belly pan pretty good, just stay in it and you'll be fine.

    Re: What a drag

It's not standing up, I think that it has enough give. In turn six I am grinding it down pretty good. I am grinding the bottom outside rear edges. I can't get the pan any higher unless I figure out a way to get the exhaust a little higher in the back.

    Re: What a drag

No. I am grinding the pan surface. I may lay up a fiberglass replacement and do it with a little more clearance then the Buell Racing pan.
