    Drz or lc4 competitive?

Sorry for bringing a ghost thread back, but its winter and I over think decisions.

Would a drz400 or an older lc4 be competitive at loudon in the novice and amateur level? Either of them hold up better then a 560 or does racing a motard require regular engine rebuilds no matter what brand you go with?

    Drz400? No.
No meaning it couldn't hang or no meaning the engines are bullet proof?

Meaning it couldn't hang. Not even with BrianC riding it.

I've owned two lc4 620's. I've never raced them, however they treated me very well. I had one set up supermoto style as well, quick bike.

    Nobody races them....so probably not.

Motards that are fast enough for racing are not reliable enough for street duty. It's one or the other.

    Re: Drz or lc4 competitive?

No, a drz or lc4 won't be competitive.

Until you're running less than 24's, you should be able to get a season plus out of a 560 that's built right. With a stock 560 it's a bit of a crapshoot.
If you like a ktm, try and find a 450smr or converted 520. Those motors are more stable.

Otherwise, don't be scared of the maintenance. Figure an oil change and valve adjust (1hr once you've done it the first time) every round, trackday or 2 if they're back to back.
At that point, it's the same as any other dirtbike/motard.

Maybe he's mad that I race w/out health insurance, listen to metal before a race, and don't want to be forced to stick a balloon in my helmet???

Hook, line & sinker. Lighten up, Francis!

If you think I'm mad or resent you in any way, shape or form, then you've got a seriously inflated sense of self worth.

Don't worry B, he doesn't like me either and it took me years to get him that way. I even had to make him breakfast! You are ahead of the game!

Sorry to get off topic, but to clarify:
Doc makes me chuckle. He's a dummy at times, but in the end, his heart is in the right place and he's a good guy.
BrianC just kinda makes me shake my head and chuckle sometimes.
I honestly don't care what music anyone listens to before a race, I was just making a statement about the mindset that I personally try to get into for competition.
I ALSO don't want to be forced to stick a balloon in my helmet, but I also don't think it's as infuriating as people are making it out to be.
And I'm not MAD that you don't have health insurance... I just think you're an idiot. There's a difference!
And lastly, I like occasionally poking fun of you for the over-the-top borderline arrogant persona you had back when you first started riding on the track for no reason other than making myself and a few others chuckle.
So no worries... no hate or anger here

It looked a heck of a lot bigger on that little EX too.

Brian, you really got to tone down the defensiveness. Even if you say it is just in fun, it sounds like you take offense to everything. You know enough of these guys and have been here long enough to know that pretty much everyone on this forum gets antsy behind a keyboard, especially in winter, and we are all pretty decent people.

In Novice, any bike in class can win...it is more the rider
In Amateur, neither a Drz400 or a Ktm 620 can win or place

Roughly 300-3000 dollars depending on which motard you'll be rebuilding. Lol!
