    Between $60 and $4000......roughly.
Funniest part of both of these posts is they aren't entirely smart ass answers. Things go well it is a relatively cheap weekend of fun. Things go south not so much.

Figure if you have your license and all the other equipment you would need for a weekend than not too expensive. All of this taking out the added costs of blowing up your bike or crash damage as they increase the costs exponentially.

Entry Fees: Race entries for 3 races as a novice should run you around $200-$210

Lodging: If you enter 3 races camping in the infield is free if you enter less than that then they charge you $25 for the weekend.

Fuel: Depends on what you are riding and what kind of fuel. 10 Gallons of 93 say roughly $35

Food: However much you want to spend on a trip to Shaws, Checkered Flag or the pizza joint down the street

So overall not too much once you have everything.

Just starting off you would need to add in the cost of Penguin School, License Fees, numbers for your bike, transponder bracket, plus renting (or buying) a transponder all of which can drive the price of a single weekend significantly higher.

Come join the insanity! Its a good time.

"Racing" in the sense of doing it as a complete novice who has never ridden anything with just one cylinder before.

In my former life I raced cars (though I drive slower than your Mom), so I realize that you can spend $60 or $6000 in a weekend -- I didn't think those comments were glib at all.

If you have a drzsm, by all means, go do a track day or twenty and ride the bejesus out of it...
If you want to race for real, look at a converted mx bike.
But, my opinion, the best thing to ride up there is what you're used to. People think motards are the be all-end all of fun up there (they are) but once you get fast, it ends up costing the same. You either end up spending money on tires suspension and motors, or tires suspension and motors. Crashing is typically cheaper on a tard, that's about it.

Its amazing that people dont think a drz is able to hang with a 690 or similar...riding skill is 90+% at the pro level. I have watched first hand at all levels a superior rider finish first against a big dollar xyz custom build blah, blah bull shit who didnt have the skills to compete.

DRZ puts out what... 30-35hp? 40 if it's all decked out?
What does your typical MX converted tard put out... 45-55?

I'm not even sure of the numbers, but my point is, it doesn't seem like much, but 10-15hp is a SIGNIFICANT difference when you're only dealing with 35-55hp to begin with.

Yeah, rider skill is 90% of the equation, but ONLY if the bike is close enough. The DRZ ain't even in the same STATE as a true sumo, nevermind in the same neighborhood.

I forgot the specs as well, but it's low..I thought 30 was on the high side for a stock drz? Another factor is weight, not only is it 15-20hp less than the MX based supermoto, it also has an extra 80 +/- lbs to carry around. Can you build it to be fast and make power? Of course, but it's still lugging around the extra fat and you lose reliability.
For what it's worth, I had 2 full seasons and a handfull of trackdays on a 2004 YZ450F...gas, oil, filters and tires. I never touched the engine, never a single issue. I also (unlike most Motard riders) changed the oil and filter after every race weekend and after every trackday

    Re: Drz or lc4 competitive?

Pretty sure my CRF450 motard was putting out close to 60 and weighed in at 250lbs wet. A lot of novice motard guys start with built bikes. And it would be pretty embarrassing to be passed by an EX500.

And a modded DRZ...is slow AND unreliable.
