    Motard Suspension setup help...

Ok so I have the 450x in motard trim with the stock suspension...

Without putting any money into it what can I do to the suspension to make it better as a motard?

Add Fluid? Raise the forks in the tubes? Stiffen it up all around?

Does anyone have some base suspension settings to go with?

Doc, i know oil weights will have an impact as well as levels. I raised my forks in the tripples a little. are you bringing it to the track for the last weekend?

    Leave it on the stand.

Hah, as funny as that is, Mr Kates is on point. The front brake will cook off WAY before the suspension slows you down.

    From
My limited experience the only thing I can do with the stock stuff is slow the rebound. That way it doesn't pogo when you flip it. But then your just masking the problem, sorta.

Your 450X has cushy woods suspension vs the stiff MX suspension of the 450R...you're pretty much screwed because the springs are so soft. or should I say, at least IMO

Martire and his crew are going softer and softer on their motards and claiming its great. They were talking about bottoming a crf at loudon last time I was there. I don't think I could ride one that way. I like a bike that doesn't transfer much weight for and aft.

    Re: Motard Suspension setup help...

Get a notebook, pen, and tire gauge. Set your sag. Make a large change in fork dampening and see what you think. Make a note. Then go the other way. Make a note. Then play with the rebound. Then play with the rear. Taking notes as you go. Slide the forks up and down and feel the difference. Even if you cannot do much at least maximize what you have. Then when you finally wish to make improvements and you see Pete you can communicate with him in a knowledgeable fashion about what you are trying to accomplish.

No, I am sure your going faster. I am not sure if it is just a KTM thing but I have heard that the stock caliber sucks when you start to use heavy breaking often. There were track days when in the AM brakes were awsome, by lunch I was bleeding.

No seriously, I instruct with it in the beginner/red group. I am not going all that quick on it (slow intermediate pace) and I am certainly not braking all that hard. There is PLENTY of squish in my lever as well, It is good to note that a caliper upgrade might be in order. Thanks.
