Are the head/spinal traumas likely to be that different? Granted, there aren't jumps in roadracing.
i beleive they are required, but we arent falling 30ft out of the sky
Quote of the month!
Not that this matters in the least But..I spoke with two trauma ER docs at work today and they said "Anyone who has sustained head trauma, at ANY LEVEL in a helmet, will be suceptable to further trauma when removing the helmet with or without a device. Using an iflatable device which slowly slides the helmet up may reduce the trauma of a first responder pulling the helmet off completely all at once."
From the looks of this I don't think this will make the helmet come all the way off on its own??
Anyway.
HA!
Alright, I said I was done but I can't help myself. I've only raced the last two years, trackdays for 3 years before that, so that is all I know. But..
Ya, the cold sucked. I low sided in 1a from cold tires, after some thought I think it was my fault and I know what I will do different next time.
But...
Did they not burn the line in and use different paint?
Did they not change the date for the first and last races?
Most of these were this year some may have been 2010.
repaint starting boxes
Grind the bump in 2
yellow curb instead of the cones in 2
Fixed pit out to AFTER the apex
extra paved runout in 6
gravel trap in 6
Tree on the inside of 6/7
run out under the tree house
Did there not change the tar snakes in 9?
curb in 9
Fit the bumps in 3 and 10
Air fence
Using the new score board
Tom seems open to face to face dialog. Some things can be changed other can't. He has come off as...scolding. But if all he hears is bitching on forums and no one comes to him with a solution I can't say I blame him.
I'm not a yes sir' guy. I do believe that if people want to make a positive difference there are ways to do it. This Forum can be a great tool. One to share ideas. All too often people are happy to bitch about a decision that was made but were no where to be found during the decision process. There was a meeting before the banquet. show of hands who went. I didn't.
Those of you who are unhappy with what goes on if you don't think contacting the track individually works then stand up. Talk to the track, see if they will allow a race to be part of the decision process. Volunteer to be a voice for the racers, hold meeting, take poles. Has anyone here done this? Probably not sounds like a lot of time.
How about this. If there is a problem, come up with a reasonable solution. Address it to the appropriate people and show support for your solution. Anything short of that is just bitching.

Did you read my last post? How about unions post?
Sorry that I am very concerned about my safety and that I don't agree with mandating an aftermarket product that alters the interior of my helmet.
What else can I say? I voiced an opinion, stated plenty of facts to not mandate this product and asked for anyone to present roadracing support for this product...to which I am still waiting on. I guess all of that is considered "bitching" and that is an opinion you are more than entitled to.
Not that it's anyone's business but I have been waiting on responses from helmet mfg's that I contacted. For those of you who think that I'm just causing shit, thanks for the vote of confidence. I am honestly concerned about the lack of support from numerous outlets and I will put money on the fact that there isn't a single helmet mfg that would back this product. That said, I can't make the responses come in any faster on my end but when they do, I will gladly offer that information.
I just wish announcements could be made in a clear, and timely fashion, so theres not all rampant speculation. Not to mention send in your money for license, garages, etc and then spring another 50-100 dollar charge that seemingly happens every year.

I really could not care less what is mandated for racing becauae i dont race any more I am very concerned that this will be mandatory for trackday attendees and if that happens we will need to make changes to web sites, have stock of these things and hand all of our customers another $50 add-on to their first track day.
It's not the product I have a problem with. I have an issue if this becomes track mandatory suddenly.
I agree with this! if you think about it, anything at all that requires removing the helmet is likely to cause further injury. One would think cutting it off (cut the shell in half) would be the safest?
It would be completly foolish and a HUGE risk to mandate this system for use in helmets when the helmet manufacturer does not approve it. If Arai says no, then technically you can't use an Arai helmet, etc, et$, et$
IMHO, it's going to go away and is just something to talk/bitch about in the offseason
I agree, I don't race and don't ever plan to again. But I do enjoy a couple trackdays a season, as you know;)
That being said, I'm at my price cap for a day of fun, so if there's a $50 added cost, that meens i'll be spending a couple more days a season in the dirt:hbang2:

Here's my take on head injury at the track.
I mean no disrespect to the track medical staff who do a fantastic job. However, if I am breathing and I am unable or unwilling to take my helmet off myself, I want it left on until I reach a trauma center.
Is there any specific need for a helmet to be removed at the track other than for someone not breathing?
It's not a maybe. I got an answer from one of the NHMS staff. They'll should making an announcement sometime next week.
ah, ya I did. I agree with you. I was just stating the other improvements that I have seen. I commented on unions post about Tom saying we could head out to 106.
Bergs. Contacting your helmet company is the first thing to do, that was an important bit to leave out. If this thing fits like crap in my Arai I won't be happy. If you or Eric get word back that this device should not be used in our helmet's and I "need" to buy another 700-800 dollar helmet I will help you fight it. I mean that.(edit that might be a drunken boast. hard to tell)

;)
I just use the pull out system. Is that not adequate?
that might change a lot about my plans as well!
my mother is a nurse and shes never heard of that device (well she has never worked in motorsports environment) and just like burgs said too i dont like something that changes the geometry of my helmet! I just dont see the need for it to be a MUST! it should NOT be a RULE in my opinion!
Obviously any kind of valid source that this has been used and its recommended for roadracing would affect my opinion, just not very thrilled about it right now and I have already committed in buying parts, paying for a garage, ordering a new helmet, etc..
If $50 changes your season, you should STOP spending money right now, and get ready to join the PGA instead. $50 over 2 years is really nothing as far as racing is concerned. (the lifespan of the gizmo)
As far as your ma never hearing of such a thing, it's pretty new technology for the masses, and training for hospital staff for something like this is sure to be slow to trickle down. Shit, I work full time in ems, and I've seen little come through my dept on helmet tech. (although I make it a point to show my coworkers what's out there, like the cheek pad removal sysrems)
