    Helmet removal system?

Just curious if you guys are going to have these at the track or not. I'm considering one but would like to see where finances are come race time before I commit & buy so I can blow it off for a weekend if finances require me to.

This thing, as recommended in the rule book for 2011 http://www.shockdoctor.com/products/...al-system.aspx

    Thanks.

I agree, and just updated the post so it goes direct to the product suggested in the LRRS rulebook.

Yes, thanks Butcher! I guess I was one click short, even when I tried to fix the original post which led to that godawful homepage.

Looking into that one today, Seth told us about it in the rule book as not mandatory but highly encouraged., and I have seen the chatter on here about them.

Good product but a good pair of EMT's should be able to take a helmet off without one. We have been doing it for years.

Our "Mom" of Street & Comp (Sera) feels the same way Doc, she's worked in the medical field and her main concern is if you have a head injury, a balloon in your helmet putting pressure on your head might not be a good thing. We watched the demo video on their site and the helmet does slide off smooth.

Demo video of an actual person. I need to watch that.

I am all for safety innovations but making it madatory would have been kinda silly. I'd like to see evidence that says this is PROVEN to be better for you.

Am I late in noticing the lrrsracing.com page says that the helmet "eject" system is now mandatory?

    Re: Helmet removal system?

I've thought about this quite a bit, trying to figure out why it would be better for you than the EMT's just pulling it off carefully.... Cuz at first glance, most people would immediately assume that it pushes down on your neck...

From my basic understanding of physics and how forces act on an object I think this device actually puts a lot LESS pressure on the spinal chord than one might think, because the helmet "drags" on your cheeks due to friction. I think that drag is going to counteract a lot of the downward force that the bag puts on the top of your head, so the "push" isn't traveling down your spine to your neck.

When removing a helmet the normal way, you're pulling on the spinal chord because of that friction. According to my warped mind, that's the force that the bag is counteracting.

has the rulebook been released yet?

i'm shocked their now requiring everyone to buy these. They're not requiring anyone to have Health Insurance to ride on a track, but you have to purchase this $50 helmet device which needs to be replaced every 2 years.

I'm shocked as well... especially considering no one has actually said they're required yet

Really: From the LRRS home page:

    Helmet Removal System
Eject® Helmet Removal System is a small air bladder that fits easily into any helmet, without changing its fit or feel. In the event of a crash, First Responders can help reduce the risk of secondary neck or spine injuries by inflating the Eject System, which gently lifts the helmet off a rider’s head.

Attention: Many racing organizations and race tracks including NHMS and LRRS have now made it a requirement to have your helmet fitted with The EJECT Hemet Removal System. To make sure everyone is aware of this requirement and has aquired one per helmet used at NHMS Rising Sun Cycles has made them available. These device Retail for $60.00 but for LRRS members they are $50.00 including First Class postal delivery. In the Comments feild of the online order put LRRS and your rider number.

But that is pretty vague. One can also say that since NHMS requires it, that it also includes track days. They may need to make this a bit clearer.

Yeah I don't really consider anything set in stone until it's been made official in the rulebook or an announcement is made.

Point taken. However, since I have Christmas money, I took advantage of the $50, shipped deal.

Might as well have one to be prepared.

If my skull is broken, the LAST thing I want is some airbag pushing on it.

That said, let me know when the powers that be at CCS require it and I'll gladly go race with another organization. Until then, not gonna happen for this guy.

so i'm wondering if that will be required for track days as well.
how will they verify you have them at tech? just check for the small tube sticking out in the back?
